Not Engaged Yet

**Oceana, COME HERE!**

4 days.
Holy crap!

I just realized that you're getting married on 4/9.  That's what the Fella and I consider our dating anniversary.  That was our first date. (That I asked him out on...ha.)

Are you getting excited?  Are you tired of being asked that?
Any last minute plans you have to get together?
Did you figure out cute socks for the groom?

Did you get RSVPs from everyone?
When are you going on your honeymoon?
How many children were ordered?

Are you serving alcohol?  What kind?
Who are you most excited to see?
Any little worries?
Did you wear your shoes to break them in, or can you just walk in heels a lot better than me?
Are you getting a manicure?

Did you do favors?

Are you tired of me asking questions you've probably already answered?

At this point, what is your best advice to the rest of us?

    1. Holy demanding tagline, Batman. :P

    2. Happy anniversary!

    3. To answer your questions...

    Are you getting excited?
Not really. Still in the "OMG I've got to get things done" mode, and I'm still working. I think tomorrow, after I meet with our vendors and I've had a day off and my family starts arriving, I'll be excited.

Are you tired of being asked that?
I'm more tired of people freaking out and assuming the worst when I tell them "not yet".

Any last minute plans you have to get together?
I still have to bake cookies and finish the OOT bags, wrap gifts, print the ceremony, and get all my paperwork together for our appointments tomorrow.

Did you figure out cute socks for the groom?
No, but he's getting some kickass shark cufflinks.

Did you get RSVPs from everyone?
    No - we're still missing about 4 RSVPs from FI's family's list. We're assuming they'll be no-shows.

When are you going on your honeymoon?
We're hoping for Labor Day Weekend.

    How many children were ordered?
Officially, three. Unofficially, at least a dozen. My mom actually ordered her first grandchild (not to eat, of course).

Are you serving alcohol?  What kind?
Full open bar. I figure, 90% of our guests are flying in for this party, the least I can do is get them sloshed in the process.

Who are you most excited to see?
Hetshup (our official NEY crasher), Mutley, my brother, my cousin Brian, my ex from France (I haven't seen him in about three years).

    Any little worries?
That French ex's flight will run late and he'll miss the ceremony. That we won't have enough time to get the flowers set up before the ceremony is supposed to start. That it'll be super windy and my hair will be destroyed before the ceremony even starts. That my FI will have more than 1-2 drinks on Thu night and he'll be hungover for the rehearsal. That I'll get so overheated in all the layers I am wearing that day that I'll pass out.

Did you wear your shoes to break them in, or can you just walk in heels a lot better than me?
I've still got to break in my shoes. Plus, I've got a bunch of insoles/Dr. Scholls thingies to keep them on my feet. Flippy floppies are going on as soon as the reception starts.

    Are you getting a manicure?
Hellz yes. And a pedi too. Two of my BMs, rickylee, and I are all going to have them done together. Can't wait.

    Did you do favors?
We donated to the American Cancer Society in honor of our grandparents. We'll have little cards explaining the donation with ribbon pins attached in the lobby of the reception area for people to take as they please.

Are you tired of me asking questions you've probably already answered?
Nah. I could probably answer these all day. Keeps me from stressing. ;)

At this point, what is your best advice to the rest of us?

    1) Do not pick your wedding party early on. Relationships change. There's nothing worse that realizing that the last person you want standing up for you that day is the person you picked.

(And for those of you who are curious, no, I did not kick out a BM. And no, she's not still in the wedding party. That's a long story for another day.)

    2) If you want to do everything your way, do not accept money from anyone else. If you do, you need to be willing to make compromises. Decide what is worth giving in on, and what is worth fighting for.

    3) Let your BP pick their own dresses. Seriously. They will be 100x happier when they are in a dress that they picked and they feel confident/beautiful in. Give them criteria (color, fabric, whatever) and just trust them.

    4) Your wedding is one day. It's a fancy party. Your marriage is a lifetime commitment. It's the building of a new family. If you're devoting more time to making your wedding everything you dreamed of, rather than your marriage everything you need, you're doing it wrong.

    5) Register for Le Cruset. Trust me. :)

Anyone else have questions? You've got me for about three more hours... :)

EEEEEEEEKKKK!!!!!! I feel like we've been waiting for this day/week FOREVER!!

    What entree did you choose?

Are you doing a first look?

  • edited December 2011
    What entree did you choose?
I went with the fish. I really wanted the beef, but my stomach has been a little off lately, so I knew the fish was a safe dish. I'm more looking forward to the salad and the cheesecake, to be completely honest.

Are you doing a first look?
Yes. That was one thing that I was adamant about. I wanted to have that time with him before the ceremony, and break any of the "OMG THE MOMENT" tension before I ever reach the aisle.

OMG.  I'm excited for you.  Seriously, this group is probably excited enough RIGHT NOW for you to not be super excited until the day of.

Is your FI excited?  Or is he in the same mode you are?

    How is the family invasion?

And are you going to kick those last 5 pounds?  I know you said you were bound and determined to do so.

Well, as strongly as I demanded, it took you long enough to answer!

Kidding.  Kind of.  I've been upping my coffee to two cups in the morning and it makes me kind of crazy mid-morning.  I've had lunch and I'm calm now.

Best of luck, congratulations, and AW ASAP.

Thanks for the great advice, you're a smart woman.

    I have a question....

You're not going to be too cool for us after you're all married and what not? Tongue out

    I'm so exicted for you!
  • edited December 2011
What was the most stressful aspect of planning the wedding for you?
Family drama. Honestly, nothing about the wedding itself was really too stressful, or at least wasn't continuously stressful. But we had several major blowups within my family, and our wedding got dragged in as ammo.

How involved was ScubaSteve in the planning?
Very, actually. He was pretty good about vocalizing what he wanted and what he preferred. Thankfully, we have similar tastes and saw eye-to-eye on 99% of the planning process. He also turns out to be very handy with a corner rounder, I found out.

If you could go back and start all over in the planning process, is there anything different you would do?
I would have gone with my original instinct and gotten hitched on a beach with only our very closest family and friends.

For your pictures...what are your HAVE to have shots?
A pic of all my cousins with FI and I, a pic of me with the NEYers in attendance. I really hope our photographer gets some good reveal shots, especially FI's reaction. Also, I have had something going around chainmail-style amongst some girlfriends of mine, and I want our photographer to get some good shots of the final product (which I have yet to see - it's getting hand delivered on Friday, I believe).

Don't tie bows on anything. Thanks J :)

How quickly are you going to AW pics so we can all drool over your wedding?
As soon as I can get some. I know rickylee is going to take a sh*t ton of pics (and probably some video), so I'll get what I can from her.

    Any special moments planned?
I'm really looking forward to the reveal - it'll be so nice to have some quiet time with just my FI before all the chaos starts. I can't wait to see my grandpa's reaction to our vows. I can't wait for our first dance, and my dance with my dad. I've been promised a dance with Mr. Man. :)

I do not have a WR question for you at the moment, but I will reply in this thread that I love the second rehearsal dinner dress you posted in the splurging thread. That color is beautiful!

Is your FI excited?  Or is he in the same mode you are?
He's stupid giddy. He keeps telling me, "Hey, guess what?!? We'll be married in # days, # hours, # minutes, and # seconds!" He's very excited.

    How is the family invasion?
So far, so good. FI's family are settled in to their rental house and my mom is still with us until my dad arrives tomorrow. We're planning on staying in tonight and having some quality time together while I knock out the remainder of my wedding projects.

And are you going to kick those last 5 pounds?  I know you said you were bound and determined to do so.
I'm 3 lbs away, and I don't think I've got enough time to pull it off, so I'm just giving it up to God at this point. I'm in a healthy BMI, which is the best wedding present ever, and they had to take in my dress (rather than take out), so I can't complain over three lbs.

The pain aspect of it seems to have abated. I think a lot of the touchy tummy issues may have to do with how nasty of a flair it was. I'm just drinking lots of diet ginger ale and eating easy foods and trying to get sleep whenever I can and hoping that does the trick by Saturday.
