silk flowers...?

I'm planning a wedding based on lavender, eggplant/deep royal purple, and white. While looking for bouquet ideas, I fell in love with a bouquet containing dark purple roses, white calla lillies, and lavender blossoms. I am also thinking of adding lavender colored peonys. The problems is, dark purple roses and lavender peonys DON'T actually exist in real flowers apparently :( Is it tacky to use some silk flowers? They have gotten a lot better at making them look real with new "feels alive" material. The other real flowers will help add scent and I'm hoping people wouldn't notice the difference but even if they did...does it matter? is it okay to use silk (which I also hear are cheaper) if that's the only way to get the true look I want? Or should I just suck it up and look for other purple-ish flowers?

Re: silk flowers...?

  • I think it is tacky, but I'll be in the minority.
  • I'm not against silk flowers, but I definitely prefer the real ones.

I'm also not a sentimentalist so I want those babies gone sooner rather than later; if, however, you want those flowers to last a lifetime, they will!

  • I don't think they're tacky. My parents had silk flowers at their wedding, and if they are well done they can look very nice. Another option is wooden/ paper flowers. Those can be painted any color and are often made petal by petal to look like the real thing.
  • Silk flowers don't have to be tacky.  We used them without them looking bad.  I have seen some that were pretty bad though.  Just use a good quality & it will be fine.
  • No some silk flowers can look very nice, shop around and buy good quality ones. I'm using silk for the bouts for the guys and for the kissing balls for the flower girls ANd they look 100% real

  • What about freeze dried flowers? Apparently they can take real flowers, preserve them, and then dye them any color. They are even scented if you want. Anyone had any experience with these?
  • all of our flowers are silk  because they are simply cheaper...
