Many of us know veterans (or perhaps some of us are veterans), so let's take a moment to recognize them and explain what they did for us!
My (first) stepdad was a veteran. He's currently struggling due to the economy, but I'll never forget him--or his new wife, or their two awesome kiddos. True story: he saved my life when I was a child in a house fire. Talk about a hero.
My (actual) dad was a veteran who served in Vietnam. Many times. Like Green Beret Special Forces kind of veteran. We have a really difficult relationship (aka, not much of one), but he sacrificed a LOT for us, including one of his, err, testicles. He wasn't SUPPOSED to be able to have kids because of earning that purple heart, but he did. And all in all, I'm pretty glad he had me.
Kudos to our veterans.
