Boo - virus on my computer :-(

So I figured out the other day that my computer got some kind of virus.  I ran two different scans on it and it cleaned up most of it.  There's obviously still some sort of problem with it since I can't even get it to bring up Windows on it now.  I'm a bad girl who doesn't back up regularly so I have at least 2 years of photos on it (my hobby - so LOTS and LOTS of photos!!), plus so much other stuff.  All my records of bills are there too.  I'm sooooo scared that I lost all of it but I'm trying to think positively that I didn't.  So send me some good vibes please!!  The computer guy is on his way into our shop now to try and fix it.  In the meantime, I'll probably miss out on some things here one the board.  I'm using BFs mac right now but I won't be able to use it again until tomorrow night or Thursday.  BIG sad face!!

Not sure if this will help, but worst comes to worst, you can always purchase a second hard drive.  If you can get someone to help (if you're not techy) you can put the new hard drive where the current one is, get everything set up on that, and then connect the old hard drive (there should be a second hard drive connector on most computers).  From there, you can make the old hard drive what is called a "slave" or secondary drive, and you should be able to access all of the folders and whatnot on it.  I believe you set you "master" (primary) and "slave" drives up in the BIOS.

    Good luck!

Yes!  I had the computer guy pick up my laptop today and he says the files should be ok.  He may have to move them to another hard drive like you described but he said he could have me do it remotely so that I don't miss any.  Whew - hoping that all works out - and FAST!!
