Should I go to the doctor?

I have lump under my arm. It feels like it might be a swollen gland I guess, I don't really know. It isn't painful and I originally thought it was an allergic reaction to my deodorant but I've switched deodorant brands three times and I've been using hypoallergenic deodorant for a few weeks now and the lump is still there.

I hate using google for things like this, I know it's going to come up with breast cancer and lymphoma. I hate going to the doctor (thus why I ignored gallbladder attacks for a year) but if this is something serious I don't want to ignore it. So I'm coming to you guys for advice. Would you go to a doctor for this or just ignore it?

Honestly, I'd probably ignore it.  But that's because I avoid going to the doctor unless I'm about to die.

But really, you should go if you're concerned about it.

Yes, make an appointment ASAP.  It may just be a swollen lymph node or it could be something more serious.  Catching something now is better than having heartache later.

Earlier this year I had my mammogram.  There was a suspecious spot and wanted previous screening to compare it (I had to change doctors due to insurance).  I still had to go thru a second mammogram even though I knew it would come up negative because of something on the screen.  Come to find out it was just a bit of skin that was folded.

Yes I would go to the doctor ASAP. It could be nothing but it could also be something more serious. And if it is cancer (I really hope it's not) it's better to find it early and start treatment now rather than wait until it gets worse and possibly spreads.

Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go directly to the doctor. The cons of waiting FAR outweigh the cons of going to the doctor.

If I were you, I'd go. However, I go to the doctor for kind of too much.

Beth, I had this a few months ago. It was a hard lump under my arm and I did end up going to the doctor. It turned out that it wasn't anyting serious, and it went away all on its own. But going to the doctor wasn't a big affair at all. I just had a quick little ultra sound and I was done.

The peace of mind was totally worth it.

Google will tell you you're pregnant. I swear, that's it's answer for everything if you have any weird symptoms. So I agree with the whole it's pointless to google it.

I agree that you s hould go see a doctor. It may be nothing serious at all but why take that chance and not get it checked out?

    Yes.  Go to the doctor.

I had one behind my ear.  Turned out it was just a swollen lymph node after I had worn earrings I was allergic to.  It went away on its own, but I didn't know that until I got to the doctor.

So, go.  NOW.  And tell us you're okay when you get back.

I'm Jewish - we get off on going to doctors. Seriously though, it's probably nothing (and I hope that it is nothing), but the peace of mind is so worth it. Keep us updated.

Sorry this ended up being a post and run, today was busier than I thought it would be. I'm just gonna make a doctor's appointment so I don't have to worry about it any more. Thanks for the advice :)

Since I've literally spent the last ten months helping two family members (and all the concerned parties surrounding them) navigate the oncology world, I say absolutely get your ass to the doctor!  My sister was only 21 when they diagnoised her with thyroid cancer, and she'd probably had it for at last five years at that point.  The lymph glands under your arm might be swollen for non-cancerous reasons, or there may be something completely different going on, but if it is cancer or something else serious you will be eternally grateful that you caught it sooner rather than later!
