I love it when professors...

I'll start.

... I love it when a professor of a online course writes a shi!ty midterm question. When I emailed said teacher about my argument for the question, with details and research as to why all of the answers are incorrect, I get an email stating "I'm sorry, but I am with limited email access until next week, but I will look into then. I will also double check your grade to make sure you got credit for the that question which you answered correctly."

REALLY... why couldn't you just take care of while you had enough internet access to email me?? I call Shenanigans!

Your turn! :)

    ...refuse to make class interesting.

I'm taking senior symposium this semester, which is a general studies class.  The thing is a joke, and the professor knows that we don't care. But, he could at least try.  Showing us a movie on cyborgs (and how we're all cyborgs in some way) at 830 in the morning is going to put us all to sleep.  Let's talk about something more interesting in the mind-body relationship field.  We spent 2 days (2 hrs) on paranormal stuff.  We could have spent longer and kept all of us way interested.  And maybe then I'd actually bother to do the stupid reading.

I love it when you go talk to a professor about your steadily-declining grade and he assures you that you're actually improving in the class...  then gives you a B at the end of the semester.

That's an old grudge.  I'm not in school currently.

I love when professors give group assignments and make you present them every week so that they don't have to teach. (I had to take a class with that lovely person twice. I still think my fellow students should have been getting his paycheck.)

    Nah, I rocked Physics. lol.

This was actually my "Advanced Oral Communication" Spanish class.  You can tell by the name that there was little written, graded work.  Is was all about participation and presentations, and it was very subjective.  That teacher hated me, so he gave me a B.  And I couldn't do anything about it.

Peek, I just re-read my post and realized this part may have come out wrong.  I didn't mean to suggest that struggling with Physics makes you dumb or anything.  It just happened to really click for me.  But I also got a C in Art 1001, so go figure.

Anyway, I hope I didn't offend you.  Sorry!

I managed to be the only person to get lower than an A in my "Leisure and Quality of Life" class in undergrad. That was epic.

A professor tells you he is going to grade hard and expects you to do the reading because he will be giving quizzes.  So you do the reading but half way through the class you stop because you are busy.  You make stuff up on the quizzes.  It is at that point that you realize he is no longer reading your quizzes and is only grading you on amount you wrote and if you did well in the class before....  Gah he was a real treasure.  This was also the teacher who spent more time telling us about his ex wives, daughter, frustrations with the administration, and his sex life then teaching us.

Nursey, that sucks about the online prof! I'm sure in the time it took to respond to your email they could have fixed it right away.  At least you have email proof that it will be fixed!

I had a prof in Intro to Psych that pulled me out of class the class before the final and told me that I was going to fail. He said that no matter what I did I was going to fail and not to even bother with the final. So I studied my ass off, came in and got a 100 on the final and walked away from the class with a C+. Take that prof!

Last semester I had a prof that was terrible to work with too. (If anyone remembers) I did my final paper, then had to present it. After class the day I presented, she told me "well I thought you were completely wrong in your paper, but when you presented I thought 'wow she actually knows her shiit'" I then took all of her criticism and fixed my paper to be how she wanted it, and she gave me a C-, even though she told me exactly what she wanted me to write, and I did just that. She was a gem.

Refuse to post lectures online until weeks after the class. Not so useful, especially when we have assignments due on the lectures at the end of every week. Sometimes there are diagrams and charts that are not possible to write down, and need to be taken from the online material. I'm pretty frustrated with that class overall, but I'll deal - it's almost done (1 week from today!)

Awwww... These posts make me sad :(

Remember, there are some of us who are professors (lecturers, instructors...) on this board!

As a part-time instructor, I have to teach 7 classes this semester (at 3 universities) AND get a student loan check to live. We don't make a ton of money.

And, if one more student comes up and asks me "Did I miss anything important in class yesterday?" My response will be... "Nope. We sat around and twidled our thumbs and stared at each other because YOU were not there yesterday. Duh, EVERY class is important. I realize it is hard to get out of bed for an 11am class twice a week, but wait until you graduate, and you have to be at work by 8am and dressed professionally 5 days a week. Oh, and BTW, I take attendance, and if you actually looked at your syllabus, you'd realize that for every class you miss (past 2), you lose 5% points off your final grade"

Ember, I had plenty of wonderful professors, too.  I'm sure everyone did.  Perhaps we should start a thread about that?

No, I understand. I had horrible professors also. I use them as my motivation for how I never want to teach or be seen as a professor.

I once had a professor tell me that I was mentally unstable (I failed a test because BF and I had broke up that weekend). The prof called me in and asked what happened, and I started crying and telling him about the fight we had and how I couldn't study. He told me I needed psychological help.

I love it when your entire Economics grade is based on two multiple choice tests (midterm and final), then he curves the entire class.  So 2 wrong out of 50 and 3 wrong out of 100 equals a C- ... how?  Mathematically, that would be an A at LEAST!  Make your test harder if you want to curve a 97 down to a C-.

And oh, he even announces that those answers aren't technically 'wrong', they're just not his'preferred' answer.  Douche.

Like Elle, old sore spot.  Only bad grade I ever got, and boy was I pissed!

I love it when a professor spends half a semester chatting about art history movements and technology that affected graphic design, and I take notes and study those concepts... but then the midterm exam is "Here's a picture. Choose the artist who made it."

I made a D. The lowest grade I've ever earned on anything. Ever.

Aw Ember don't worry I have had mostly awesome teachers.  Yes it annoys me when I see students doing that to teacher.  I feel bad for the teachers because unless you are a failure like the teacher mentioned by me what teachers have to say is important.  I hate missing class for a bathroom break! :/

Elle, didn't offend me at all.  I knew what you were getting at.  Physics and I just don't get along.  Kind of like Organic and I.  Different people, different strengths.

There's a running joke on our floor that if we had physics for elementary school kids, maybe we could do well.  We've also decided that physics isn't real.  ;)
