M-effers!!!!!!!!! (Alfred Angelo RANT)

Seriously. SERIOUSLY. This has just become a huge PITA.

Okay, dress. I bought my dress in OCTOBER. For my JUNE wedding. Right? They said it would arrive in January. It arrived in November. That's great, except that I needed to wait until after Christmas to pay for it. No problem, they held the dress.

I went to pick it up in January. You may recall that my consultant had ordered the wrong size. It was a mistake. With any other dress a 12 would probably have worked. But this dress hugs my hips.... which are, admittedly, larger than the average girl's hips. I have a ghetto booty. I like it. She missed that. She should have known better, I even asked "Why are we not ordering for the largest measurement?" She assured me that it would fit. Since she presumably knew more than I do about how dresses fit, I took her advice.

Didn't fit over my hips. Right. I was concerned. Not angry. Just like "Okay, get me a new dress pronto." Which they did. At no charge. A size larger than the sample I tried. The sample fit me. But I guess my consultant was freaked. So she ordered a larger size. That freaked me out, since she was already wrong once. I went back to the store that evening and asked to try on a dress in the size she ordered, and I did... and it was okay.

With the purchase of the dress, I was told I get one free steaming. Obviously that should be done after alterations. I chose not to use their seamstress, but to go with FI's aunt. She is giving me the "family rate" of $60 when Alfred Angelo's price was more like $200.

Well, I am picking up my dress on Saturday. I called the store just now to ask how to go about getting my dress steamed. I was told a) I have to bring it in a month and a half before my event (which, um, it is RIGHT NOW... so I'm glad I called?) b) it takes about 30 minutes and I have to wait in the store. No problem. c) I need to have an appointment for it. That's cool, too.

I said "Okay, well, I am picking it up from the seamstress Saturday, so....." and the consultant (who happened to be MY consultant, btw) INTERRUPTED ME to ask if I had used their seamstress (you don't interrupt a customer, like... EVER. I worked retail. I managed to be ungodly polite.... so can anyone else!). I said "No, I used a different seamstress" and she said "We're not allowed to touch the dress if someone else altered it." and that was just.... it. So I said "Um, okay. Do you have recommendations for somewhere else I can have my dress steamed?" She put me on hold for a few seconds, and then came back and said "No, ma'am. We don't have any reccommendations."

So, mother effers. You didn't TELL me anything about not being able to get the dress steamed if I used another seamstress. You didn't TELL me I had to call a month and a half in advance (luckily I DID, but only because I have bridals. WTF it's supposed to sit in the closet for almost 2 months AFTER being pressed???).

They gave me NO information except "Yay! You can have your dress steamed one time FOR FREE since you bought it here!" And then I call to take them up on it, and the consultant is not very polite and kind of gives me the "It's not my problem" vibe, which I HATE.

GRRRRRRRRR.

I have a trial run for my hair today and maybe my hair/makeup stylist person has some suggestions. I don't even think I want to go back to Alfred Angelo even if they call me and say "OOPS! That was wrong! We can do it!" I mean, that store is just one huge headache for me.

Jeter, I may need to do more research on dress places for you. I don't want you to have a PITA experience like this.

See what happens when you piss Jeana off? SHE POSTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT YOU. I am SO changing my review of Alfred Angelo from "neutral" to "negative" on the Baton Rouge forums and in my wedding bio and putting the name of my consultant in it, too.

YOU DON'T SCREW WITH ME, OKAY? I have a boatload of patience, but this stupid store just reached my limit. And that's saying A LOT.

    Take your pick.

Personally, I like a bit of an accessory.

Serious WTF.  I would call back just to speak with the manager.  They may have certain policies, and while I can understand those policies needing to be enforced... the consultant should not have been so f-ing rude.  Plus after all of the shiit they put you through, those stupid policies shouldn't matter.

    For good measure!

You need to throat punch the bridal consultant! What a cuntpickle.

Do you have any written document or something in contract about the free steaming?

Cliff's notes (not that you want them, because I'm so damn entertaining):

-She should have paid more attention to the dress style and my measurements when ordering in the first place.

-She probably should have ordered the sample size (a 14) instead of a larger size just because she was freaked.

-She SHOULD HAVE LISTENED when I asked a lot of questions and voiced my concerns about the larger size and immediately offered to pull a 16 for me to try on instead of waiting for me to stress all day about it and come all the way back to the store because I was so worried.

-She should have told me that if I used another seamstress they couldn't steam it.

-She should have apologized for the miscommunication AT THE VERY LEAST and offered a suggestion or two on places I could at least CALL.

-Also, I forgot to mention that I sent my bridesmaids to Alfred Angelo, and my cousin and sister in West Virginia had an okay experience, but my FSIL, who used MY CONSULTANT was pretty much ignored the entire appointment. *I* (and I don't mean to sound like a snob.... but I am the BRIDE who just dropped a bunch of cash on a dress and accessories and probably paid most of that consultant's rent for a month with the commission) was running around asking for clips to help with samples that were too big and asking if they had any other samples on the list FSIL brought with her. I should not have had to do that. NO CUSTOMER, especially not the bride who sent them a bunch of business, should be running around asking "Where is our consultant? Can someone help us? Can you at least give me clips so *I* can help my bridesmaid myself???"

Okay, so that's not Cliff's Notes, more like Rant 2.0. Sorry.

Yeah I'd be asking for the manager because your dumb consultant should have told you about that they you had to use their seamstress in order to get the free steaming. I'm so sorry Jeana. I went to one Alfred Angelo with one bridesmaid and they were horrible there so I went to a different one about 15 minutes away and that store had way better customer service. Maybe you can call one of the other stores and see what they say?

I just looked for the folder they gave me with all the info, but I think I tossed it out last month to reduce clutter.

I THOUGHT I kept any papers that I might still need (obviously my receipts, all 3 of them) but maybe I was an idiot and didn't think anything else could possibly go wrong.

I may call the manager. Possibly. I could ask my FMIL to do it. She's great at being a total b!tch, as we know.

Sorry. That is really frustrating. I wonder why they want to steam it a month and a half before the event? On my local boards everyone talks about their last dress fitting being 1-2 weeks before the wedding.

The internet is an insanely powerful tool, Button. And I know how to use it.

I was looking for a jedi picture, and found Obama with a purple lightsaber. That's too hilarious not to post.... and kinda fits.

WTF?!  I would be calling and talking to the manager.  I would make it very clear that you were told you get ONE FREE STEAMING.  No specifics were made.  Let them know that you really aren't sure if you want to return to their store, and impress upon them the fact that you felt their staff didn't treat you appropriately and you felt they acted unprofessionally. That is TOTALLY unacceptable.

Beat them on the nose with a rolled up newspaper!!

Oh gosh! So sorry that happened to you! and I agree with PP about calling the manager.  No one likes to lose buisness.  Good luck!

I had similar issues with David's Bridal with most of the bridesmaids not having a problem but one store I had MAJOR issues with.  So when I got the form for comments I filled it out.  However thier system sucks and sent it too the wrong store, who then called me to find out why it was such a bad experience when everything went fine there.

Oh, and yes the over 1 month thing is ridiculous.  I had my last fitting on October 9th.  We got married on the 10th.  They steamed it right after my fitting AND dropped it off at my MIL's house.  Then again, they are a small business in a small town.  They didn't even charge me to steam it.  You could drive here, have your dress steamed and drive back to BR all before their stupid 1.5 month notice.

I would call up the store manager and vent like hell!!

THEN I would call corporate and do the same. Then I would tell them I expect to be compensated for my trouble. And I would say I'm an active participant in the LA bridal community, and I would have no problem telling everyone about my experience.

If they don't enforce servicability, they should pay the consequences.

I just called my mom and SHE is pissed, too. So she looked up their corporate number and is calling them (and also got the BR store phone number and my consultant's name) because, APPARENTLY she didn't tell me (because she didn't want to stress me) that the store in Maryland had to RE-ORDER my sister's dress because they forgot to put the order in the first time or something and it never came. LUCKILY I had them order their dresses so far in advance.

THIS is why I do sh!t months before anyone else. Because crap goes wrong and I want time to account for that and b!tch someone out if necessary.

My mom will do a good job complaining, though. She's the nicest person ever, but she doesn't take crap like this. She'll get something done. I don't know what (she says she wants 2 free steamings for me, but I'm not holding my breath), but she'll get something.

I can't believe you have to pay to have your dress steamed to begin with! Places around here do it for free.  I still say newspaper to the nose.

    I giggled at this.

Jeana- Call the manager ASAP and get yourself ready to pummel them in anger. Basically do everything Kat said, call and complain to everyone who will listen.

    Good Luck!

Well, mom called the manager at the BR store, told her everything that went wrong (and that it was all the same consultant), told her that my mom and I are both very easy-going and have been very calm about all these problems, but that this is IT. I have my bridals next week and have no clue where to get my dress steamed, and mom said she was about to call the corporate number.

So, the manager is having my dress steamed on Monday, and again the Monday before the wedding (that one will cost $60, but mom offered to pay for it). No problem at all. It should only take about 10 minutes. So there.

My mom rocks pretty hard. I love my mom.
