Not Engaged Yet

Ring pic + A question

Since you all asked, here it is:

I love it so much! I took it in for sizing yesterday, and because my hands are so small, it has to be sent away to be re-sized (since they'll have to re-set it). So, I'm looking at 2 weeks till I can wear it. Ah well.

And for the engaged/married ladies around here: How/why did you choose your wedding date (even just month/year/time of year)? I'm kind of struggling with this, and FI's only input thusfar is that it can't be June (his parents were married in June and their marriage didn't work out).

Your ring is SO PRETTY! Can't wait til you have it back and we can see it on your little hand. :)

For us, we chose summer b/c it gave us a good 7 months to plan (PLENTY of time, I promise!), it fit with my and my h's work/school schedules, and we got a fab discount at our favorite venue for doing a July wedding in Arizona. The heat was truly bearable -- we got a good rainstorm that morning that got our temps down 10 degrees cooler than the day before or the day after! Overall, it worked out perfectly for us.

It looks beautiful! We chose ours because it was right in the middle of our birthdays. That date just so happened to fall on a Saturday, but it wouldn't have made a difference if it didn't.

    <div>Gorgeous ring!</div><div>
</div><div>I did not want an engagement any longer than 8-12 months. Since we got engaged in July, that made the spring a pretty obvious choice, especially with how nice the weather is, and I liked the fact that our visitors would be able to enjoy awesome outdoor activities and go to spring training.</div><div>
</div><div>With respect to the date, 3/24/12 happened to be the only Saturday in March that our venue was open, but it was also important to me that the date had some kind of 'flow.' So I had already 'crossed off' 3/10/12 and 3/17/12. I really wanted 3/3/12 or 3/4/12... but that is because I'm a gigantic math geek and numbers mean something to me. <strong>CN: 3/24/12 works because all three numbers are divisible by 3.</strong></div>

So pretty! : ) We picked ours because we both love fall and it's also a month without a ton of birthdays or anniversaries. Plus, we thought the fall colors would be pretty for pictures and it wouldn't be too hot or too cold (we hope)!

You could always start by picking a month you both like and checking out venues and seeing what is available.

    Gorgeous!

I think we chose in a somewhat untraditional way, but I'll tell you anyways.

Part of DH proposing was him saying he didn't want to wait any longer to get married.  He wanted to marry me THAT year.  He didn't want to wait another year to start our family (this all came up during a general life/kids conversation.)  He threw out September.  (It was April.)  I told him that my cousin was getting married in September, then he said August?  I laughed and told him that August was only 4 months away and how about October.  We figured that we needed to do early October because late October/early November can have a fair amount of bad weather.  Then, we checked with our Church to see what dates they had open.  I preferred October 10th because it was a bye-weekend for my football team and luckily, that date was open.  Ta-duh!  Wedding date.

Gorgeous! We picked late spring because we knew we wanted to honeymoon somewhere in Europe, and we didn't want to go in the middle of the summer with the million other tourists. And we were also potentially thinking Norway for the honeymoon so we didn't want to do that in the fall or winter.

Very pretty ring =) I hated having to send mine out after I got it. lol.

We picked our date by first deciding what season we wanted then the year by how much time we thought we needed. The specific day came from the availability of our venue once we knew where we wanted to have it. Hope that helps!

Edit: We are also doing it at the Union on our college campus in the fall, so we had to work around home football games because Football Saturdays are a nightmare here!

Ooh pretty! The setting is a lot like mine, but I don't have round stones.

We got married in July. We had a semi-destination wedding so we knew we would have to take a lot of time off. We're graduate students so summer break was the obvious best choice. Also, there are loads of teachers in our family, so it was a more convenient time of year for our guests as well. I choose the exact date simply because it was available and I like the number.

If we had a local-only wedding, we probably wouldn've based our decision mostly on the availability of my church and prices of the available venues.

    Your ring is beautiful!!!

I wanted a Spring wedding because I wanted it to be warm & we both agreed that Spring 2012 was too soon for us to have the money to pay for what we want.  So that put us in Spring 2013.  We were originally looking at June 1 just because it's a date I pulled out of thin air.  Then I started thinking it could be too warm that day & my chest breaks out in hives when I'm hot so I got scared & told FI that I thought we should do May. May 4 was the only Saturday that we could actually do so that's what we chose!

Beautiful ring! Thank you for sharing :) I had to get my ring resized too. It sucked being without it, even thought it was like 12 hours for me, ha.

We originally had a large window of time we were considering for the wedding date. It got narrowed down by other important events, i.e. my sister's college graduation and the fact that we wanted about a year of engagement. It seemed most reasonable for us. Then we had two months to go to venues with to check availability. Once we chose our venue they only had a couple of Saturdays in those two months, and we decided on August because we started dating in August, got engaged in August and July is my birthday month/parent's anniversary month.

I wanted a 9-month engagement.  H wanted to be graduated with his degree.  so it had to be after May, and fit with the church's schedule.  I wanted September, but the latest date was JULY.  it was either July or November, so July it was.  :)

Life is going to dictate our date. We just found out my dad might be having to have a major surgery (getting his colon removed)....He'll find out more on December 6th. If there is no surgery in his future...or that it's early in the year- we'll probably get married in April/May (because we don't really want to wait to be married).

If he does have surgery- we'll probably do our original plan to rent the vacation home next Autumn. We do like autumn- it's our favorite time of year. Other then that- it will be based on venue availability.

    Pretty, pretty ring!

How did I miss your announcement?!?!?!  CONGRATS Beads!!!  I am sooo happy for you and your ring is gorgeous!

As far as date goes, we decided on May because it's "off season" here, so the hotel rooms wouldn't be as expensive for our guests, but it's still nice enough to have an outdoor wedding.  We chose Memorial Day weekend because 90% of our guest list is from out of state and we figured it would be nice for them to have an extra day.

Pretty ring! I really want to see it on your hand, though. Oh well. I'll wait, I guess. We had to schedule our wedding around FI's med school calendar, so we only had June and July to work with. Of those, we preferred June because we knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony, and July in south TX is just not pleasant. We didn't narrow it down any further until we found the venue and saw what they had available, and then we chose 6.9.12 because the numbers are fun, like Yaga mentioned.

    Such a pretty ring!

I'm not engaged yet, but I kinda have no preference about when I get married someday.  But, it will depend on WHERE I get married.  For instance, I won't get married in blizzard season in January or something :)  It'll still snow the day of my wedding, and probably a hurricane mixed in too.  As a FL native (kinda), though, I laugh at everyone that goes on Caribbean cruises during hurricane season - it rains EVERY day, guys!

Now I'm gonna read to see what others have to say about this date picking thing, haha.  I'm gonna have trouble with it someday.

We picked our date because that's when FI's apartment lease will be up and I'll have had a summer to work at camp again and look for a grown up social worker job. Real romantic right here.

OK - that helped. I think I was overthinking it. Half the problem is that I really wanted June...but I know it wouldn't sit well with FI, so I'm thinking May or August/September based on the weather.

SKP - I think I posted it on Monday maybe? I don't remember, but he proposed Sunday night.

Elle - The ring is so much too big that I really couldn't even take a picture of it on my finger. It would just flop around and be all stupid. I will report back with a new picture once I get it Smile

    Beautiful ring!

We knew it had to be in the summer to accomodate his family travelling from California and then the caterer's availability decided the rest. So, August 4th it is.

Congrats, Beads! So sorry I missed your original post! I love your ring :)

We picked October because I wanted to do it this year (2011) to avoid planning during the year 2012 when I hope to be writing my thesis. He proposed in December last year and it would have been a challenge to do it in the summer, and I love the fall. H just went along with it.

You'd do well with August or September! May weather (at least where we live) can be unpredictable, where as the late summer/early fall is almost always goregous!
