Bookworms!

It's been a little slow around here lately, I think we're all really busy. I'm sick of school already (and I just started!)

But I've been reading a lot lately. Fiction. I've always had a soft spot for fantasy or sci-fi books. I still read fairy tales sometimes.

I have a question for all the book lovers out there - do you ever get really involved in the story line of a book? Sometimes I find myself so moody after something bad happens in a book. I find really good books can easily stir up all these emotions in me.

I hope I'm not the only one around here that gets totally absorbed and drawn into books....

*raises hand* I do. BF picks on me because I cry during sad parts of books (and movies). I think I got more emotional when I was writing things. If a story went in a direction where one of my characters got killed off I would be really moody and depressed.

I'm reading the Mortal Instruments series right now and it is driving me crazy. I had to spoil it by reading wikipedia just to make myself feel better.

    Spoiler:
Two main characters are boy and girl. They like each other (of course) and they're perfect for each other (I love love stories).
They kiss (hurray!) THEN FIND OUT THAT THEY'RE BROTHER AND SISTER.

So messed up. It's a teen book too (I'm not quite 20 yet so I still qualify as a teen!) and it BUGS ME SO MUCH.

But don't worry! I read wikipedia and it turns out it's all a trick! They aren't really brother and sister.

But still. Messed up because they're so in love. Icky. It made me really uncomfortable and moody until I read the spoiler. Now I'm just anxious.

Meeee, I totally do. I'm also one of those people that talks about the characters in books like they're real people. I get super involved, and whenever I reread something, I secretly hope the outcome is different -- more specifically, in favor of the protagonist.

Speaking of books, I decided the other day to adapt one of my favorite books into a screenplay - I've taken screenwriting classes and I know the proper form, so why not utilize my skill? I figured it would help me keep my mind occupied while I'm waiting to hear from a job. </threadjack />

<div>This. When ever I re-read "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" I hope that the ending will be different and that my favorite character of the series won't die. :(</div>

Just thinking about books I've read in the past can evoke a certain mood.  Anne of Green Gables will always remind me of relaxed, happy, family-focused and in the fall.  It's like a certain smell will remind you of someone or something, it's the same thing.

Sometimes when I am reading a happy part of a book I will catch myself smiling, and of course there's those laugh out loud moments.  Which is why I read alone.

"Whores on the Hill" by Colleen Curran. It's terrifically well-written. It's about teenage girls at the last all-girls' school in Milwaukee, in 1987. My biggest challenge right now is the jumpy timeline and the overabundance of inner monologue. I can't decide if I want a voiceover narrator or not.

I hope your professor in your screenwriting class tells you about Celtx - it's an AWESOME screenwriting program, free to download, with templates. My screenwriting prof did, and it saved my life. I'm sure you know already how difficult and specific the formatting is for screenplays!

This is me, but only about animals. I read <em>Dewey</em>, about a library cat, and I was bawling at the end. You know from the beginning that the cat will eventually die (at a ripe old age), but I was still really sad.

I also could never watch "Emergency Vets" on Animal Planet without crying.

I'm the type who feels like I'm 'missing' something when I have to put a good book down to, you know, live real life lol.  I always find myself worrying something is happening with these characters that I'll miss by not being there reading.  Wierd, I know. :)
