Not Engaged Yet

All the pregly ladies...

What would you really appreciate as a shower gift? I have an upcoming baby shower for a girl at my church in about a month. I'm not super close to her and I don't think she has a registry.

A mix CD is clearly a viable option.

I totally did the same thing!!

Anyways, I always go for the generic gift card and a package of diapers. Two things a new mom can always use.

    LOL bren.

I'm sorry, we totally jacked your thread. To answer your question - I'm not pregly, but if I were in your shoes, I would just go with some gender neutral onesies (unless you know what she's having) and a package of diapers.

I have friends with babies and they all say that extra onesies are always welcome because babies spit up on them, they have diaper leaks (charming, I know) and can go through several in a day. And hey, they always need diapers, right?

Do you know anyone else who knows her and/or is close to the girl? Maybe you can ask them, see what she needs or if she's got a registry.

Not pregnant, but my go to gift for all the baby showers I attend is a diaper genie and a diaper genie refill.  Much needed to house the stinky diapers after baby has done his or her business.

I would say toys? Bibs? Onsies? You can never have too much of those.

Do you know the baby's name? I always like doing personal things like having a blanket or a shirt monogramed or with her name.

Onesies - I have a ton of them because I know we're going to go through a lot of them and it's nice to know we're always going to have a clean one. Diapers/diaper genie is a good idea too unless she's planning to cloth diaper. Recieving blankets, bottles, wipes, bath wash - basically the essentials. Cute clothes are good too : )

Can you search babies r us or target or something to see if she does have a registry?

You are big on reading right? How about some story books, the are gender neutral and sizeless.

We don't have Target in Canada, yet. But I didn't think of Babies'r'Us! I just checked and unfortunately they aren't there, but that would give me a good place to go shopping :)

I figure a lot of people are going to get pretty basic stuff, but that's okay to have a lot of right? I'm thinking of getting either some diapers and wipes or a gift card, with maybe a cute pair of bigger shoes (that the baby can wear when they're a bit older? They just grow up so fast!)

You can also buy onsies and baby blankets and towels and make a baby towel cake.  a friend of mine did one for a fellow expecting mom at a baby shower I attended a while ago.

<div>Oh, god, yes! Babies go through EVERYTHING so fast - clothes, diapers, wipes, shoes, etc. It's perfectly fine to get any of the basics for her!

Last year, one of my co-workers had a baby shower. She didn't have a registry really, but gave us all a little note with things she would like for the baby. It included things like socks, mittens, onesies, diapers, wipes, toys, and blankets. I ended up getting her a set of onesies from Meijer (which I'm sure you don't have in Canada, but any generic store should have some) - it was less than $20 and included about 7 sets. I've seen pics of her baby on FB wearing the clothes and it definitely made me smile!</div>

Something I just remembered - hand covers. I never even heard of these until recently but they keep the baby from scratching themselves with their tiny little nails.

If you want to get creative, I know someone who make a diaper cake instead of a towel cake. That was like a Costco-sized pack of diapers to make it.

(Does the Costco reference work for Canadians?)

Just make sure you give a gift receipt, and then it really is the thought that counts ;-)

I always give a laundry basket filled with diapers, onsies, books, a baby nail care set, and cute outfits.  A few of my friends have done the cloth diaper thing, so they gave all the disposable diapers to their parents for when they drop off the baby, so that grandma doesn't have to clean the cloth diapers!

All of my friends have said to me, after the baby was born, that they loved the laundry  basket because they used it for so many different things.  And the whole package usually costs no more then $50.  I hope that helped!

If you can't come up with an idea.. write a personal note in your card and do a gift card for her and the child's father to go out to a nice dinner before the baby arrives.

Most mom's to be have a registry, but don't think of including things such as a hooded towel, baby wash clothes, solid color onsies etc.

Haha! Yes, we have Costco here :) it's a life saver!

Thank you so much for all the ideas! I'll look around, but I like the idea of the books and onesies :) I may ask around to find out if they'll be cloth diapering or not, but I do know they don't know the gender yet.

One thing every pregly lady would probably love is to get a prenatal massage.  By the time they reach the end, their muscles ache and are in dire need of one.

    OR a mani/pedi gift certificate.
