Not Engaged Yet

Maybe it's just me

but I find those 3D ultrasounds incredibly disturbing.  They're freaky looking, and I find it creepy to see that much detail of a baby's face before it's born.

I've been lurking on TN and have been seeing more and more of these lately.  Even on FB.

Thoughts?

  • AGREE. Super creepy D:

  • It's also odd to me that people respond, "Oh she's beautiful!" or "She looks JUST like you!" when I'm thinking it looks like a deformed alien baby in sepia tones.

  • I call them the alien baby photos. They freak me out.
  • Ha. I don't love them now, but I bet if i was pregnant, it would be nice to see a little more of the detail. 9 months seems like a long time to wait!

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • I think that when they are from earlier in the pregnancy, they can be a little creepy. Like the tickers that show the baby in all its more alien-looking stages of development.

It's less creepy, IMO, when it actually looks like a real person, and also when the little person is related to you.

    Probably very true.

  • I don't think they are that weird, but I've already had a child so I am probably biased because of that.

I didn't do a fancy ultrasound with my son.  The u/s that was used to determine the sex was at near 5 months and he looked a lot like an alien, but it was so real and so cool as a parent, especially because that little person was growing inside of me.  We had a couple u/s's the last couple days before I was induced but they were for concerns for his health so I didn't get any printed pictures or anything from them.

  • I got one.  I thought it was pretty effing awesome.
    I'm not good at feelings.

  • I think they're pretty cool! It's incredible how much detail can be seen.

  • I think they're cool for the family and parents... but I realllly don't think those pictures belong on Facebook (or at least not as a profile picture!). Then again the people posting them as their profile pictures are the TMI type anyway who will likely make status updates about their baby's bowel movements later on.

  • I imagine it might be different if it's your baby? But yeah..as a baby-less chick..they scare me!

I literally LOL'ed. Partly cuz this is totally how I feel. I too am not a fan of the 3D ultrasounds, and find them creepy. Apparently they actually have 4D ultrasounds now. I don't even want to know what the 4th D is, especially not after the Lilo & Stitch 4D ride at Disney with the onion burp!<div>

  • They're creepy as hell, but at the same time they're really fascinating. I know whenever anyone I know has a baby and they show me the ultrasound, they're pointing to various parts of the picture like "And here's his little hand", "Oh, and there's his little foot". I'm like "How the heck can you tell?"
