Those w/ knowledge of German culture

Help! FI and I want to incorporate some kind of German culture into our ceremony but a simple google search isn't really cutting it. (Though, for the 'puns' sake, there is one where after you walk back down the aisle as husband and wife, you cut a log in half... it's on our short list).

Let me talk to some people?  We never covered wedding ceremonies in classes, and I never got to attend a wedding while I was there.

My mother's side of the family is German and Czech. Let me see which things are German and which are Czech before I comment! I'll send you a PM after I talk with my Grandma. :)

Awesome, thanks everyone! We aren't doing a unity candle, or sand ceremony or anything like that, so something we can place into the ceremony would be great. But we're open to an after-the-ceremony thing as well :)

Don't you know?  Part of being German is you don't kiss.  Instead the bridegroom picks the bride up and runs with her down the aisle to the bedroom to do the deed as fast as possible!   Afterwards everyone drinks beer.  ;)  JK I honestly have no idea.  I will ask my friend to see if she knows!!

This is such a cute idea, Tiger!

Not to threadjack, but we have been trying to come up with a unique alternative to the unity candle. We are doing a sand ceremony, but the ceremony is so short I want to add something else. The only thing I've seen is the wine in the box idea, which would maybe work if you were Italian. LOL

You take a bottle of wine and love letters written to each other and put them in a box. Apparently you seal the box together during the ceremony explaining how you will wait until your first big argument to open the box and remind yourselves how you felt in that moment while drinking wine? I'm not good at putting things eloquently, lol.

I like the wine in a box idea, though I think we would plan on opening it on our 1st anniversary (we rarely have fights), then we'd write new love notes, put them back in the box and open them again on our 2nd anniversary.

Lunar - if I was going to dance with my dad to the same song as FI and his mom, I'd have my mom dance with his stepdad. That would be pretty comical! Lots of the rest of those sound like things we do here!

This just gave me the idea! I love that! We can do the love notes every anniversary, I'll just skip the wine in the box thing. :)
