Egypt

Anyone been before?  I'm looking for honeymoon ideas and I have always wanted to visit Egypt...especially Cairo.  I'm thinking a tour might be the best way to do it, but I'm not sure.  Any advice?  Thanks!

I haven't been there but I really want to go so I've been reading a lot about it.  It sounds like it's really best to just do the Cairo/Lower Delta (Giza) area.  I was thinking it might be better to do it as a stop (1 or 2 days) on a Mediterranean cruise than to do a whole Egypt trip.  The thing I don't like about cruises and tours is that you have to follow someone else's schedule.  If you find you really like a certain area, you don't get the option to spend more time there.

Thanks! Yeah I totally agree on the tours.   Since I have never been to Egypt I figured it would be the best way to see the "important" stuff safely, easily (they book the hotels and such) and learn alot.  I am hoping to find a tour that includes at least a half a day or a full day of free time so we can explore on our own.

As for the rest of the honeymoon....my family is from Greece so we have a home on one of the islands.  My parents are giving us the plane tickets as a wedding gift, so we will be spending the majority of the time on the island and in Athens.  Hopefully we will both be able to take three weeks off of work, so we were hoping to do another trip (maybe 5-7 days) to another country.  It is fairly cheap to fly from Athens to Cairo, and it seems the tours are fairly inexpensive.  I just want to find a good one....preferably one that someone has used before!

A co-worker of mine just went to Eqypt a few months ago.  She said it was a great experience but talked about how poor it is there... I just don't know if it's exactly a honeymoon type of place..unless you're wanting an adventure then I'd say go for it!

Since we are doing half the trip on the island in Greece (the honeymoon part) and relaxing on the beach and such, I thought it would be nice to spend the other part seeing some place different and have a bit of an adventure :-)

I definitely want an adventure type of honeymoon... I have wanted to go to Africa for a LONG time, and I really want to go to Egypt too!  He wants to go to Germany and drink beer from a boot.  :-/

One of my friends is from Egypt and he says Cairo is the place to be.  Lots of night life and modern aspects along with the old school Egypt stuff.  I studied abroad in Morocco and there are similarities in culture an language and it is an awesome culture to learn about!!!  I say go for it.  It will really open your eyes to a whole new lifestyle!!!  If you want me to ask my friend for specific places/attractions, let me know!!!!
