Not Engaged Yet

THANKS A LOT, Scary Loser Neighbors...

The night started well enough.

BF and I were laying in bed around 11:30, and all of a sudden, he's like, "You know I have your engagement ring, right?" and I told him that I knew he had gone shopping for it, but I didn't know he had actually bought it. He then said, "I want to give it to you. I just want to propose, and I want you to wear the ring, and I want us to start planning our wedding, and I want to be with you forever and ever." That's about where my heart felt like it was going to catapult itself out of my throat. Then he's like, "I have something planned for proposing to you, but I can't wait any more."

At this point, I'm clearly about to pee my pants, and I'm expecting him to get up and go find the engagement ring, but then, all of a sudden, we hear doors slamming across the street and plenty of naughty words being tossed around at quite a volume. We figured it was just giong to go away (we have a house near an apartment complex where recent prison releases and drug users live, so we're used to this stuff happening once every couple months or so), but after a while, it got louder, and more cars started coming and going faster and faster, and so we got up and peeked out the window. As soon as we looked under the shade, we saw a guy punch another guy, and then another guy took off running. Not ten seconds later, we heard what sounded like a kid screaming and a car peeled out in front of our house, threw a beer can into our yard, smashed into our curb, bounced off, then drove away with the bumper hanging off. I called the cops, and pretty soon, one cop car arrived, followed shortly by five more. While the cops were questioning people, two guys came from down the street and stood so one of them was watching the cops and one was watching our house, and they didn't leave for half an hour or so. Two people got cuffed and hauled off, and two cop cars circled the neighborhood for the next couple hours looking for the guy who ran off.

I was panicking for the rest of the night and shaking like crazy, and BF got up and checked all the doors and windows, texted his dad's cop friend to make sure everything was okay, and brought a filet knife to the bedroom all in an effort to calm me down. Finally I fell asleep, and this morning as I drove past the place where all the drama happened, it was like nothing ever took place. It was so strange.

So that's what happened. I was THISFREAKINGCLOSE to getting officially engaged last night, and our scumbag neighbors had to get all domestic disturbance on us. I'm home alone right now, so if you guys never hear from me again, it's probably because I got kidnapped and thrown into the back of a brown Chevy Blazer with no front bumper.

EDIT: I should probably mention that I'm glad that nobody got MAJORLY hurt, and I'm really glad that the kids are okay. My original post was extraordinarily "pretty pretty princess" without that detail. :/

Sorry to hear about your neighbors. Glad I live in a relatively sleepy suburb when I hear storeis like this.

Well it sounds like he is ready to be engaged, so I guess now you know it could be at any time now. I guess now you can just be excited as you wait!

Wow, that sucks! But, you'll look back on this someday and laugh. Because it's KIND of funny.

Don't worry, it's obviously coming very soon. Crazy neighbors or not.

I agree with Jenna...you may not see it as funny now but you'll be able to look back and laugh someday. Hopefully he does it for real soon so it doesn't drive you crazy!

I, of course, agree with Jeana too.  It may not seem too funny at the moment, but it will in the future.  The weekend my FI proposed I ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere and had to get a tow truck to take me to get gas!  Of course I didn't think it was funny at the time but now it's something I'll probably always remember and I can actually laugh at it now.  Sounds like your engagement is coming VERY soon!!  Enjoy the anticipation!
