"Damn, I'm Old"

On Friday, FI and I went to the Panic at the Disco concert. It was not a very large crowd (by this venue's standards) but I had no desire to be up at the very front (my three friends I was with though, fought their way to the barricade). FI and I hung back by the bar, where we had a great view of the stage, but the misfortune of being very close to the speakers. In addition, Panic at the Disco has a young fanbase (I think FI and I were the oldest people there who weren't chaperones or parents), so screaming teenagers was a huge factor.

Between the opening acts, we chatted with the bartender. FI noticed that she was wearing earplugs and said, "I wish we were as smart as you!" The bartender then informed us that they sold earplugs at the box office, and FI was on his way in a shot!

The earplugs were perhaps one of the best decisions we'd ever made! We could hear the music perfectly, without the added noise of screaming or any sort of blaring from the speakers we were so close to.

While we were waiting for Panic at the Disco to come on stage, we started talking about how old we felt being at a concert while wearing earplugs. I mean, even at the age of 24, we seemed to be the oldest fans there (there probably were fans who were as old or even older, but where we were standing - surrounded by teenagers - it sure felt that way).

The next day, FI's best friend, who had been at a KORN show on Friday, posted on Facebook about how she was now too old for the mosh pit and decided that from now on, she was going to hang back (she's 27).

So, have any of you had a "damn, I'm old" revelation? When did it hit you, and how old were you? If you haven't hit that point, when do you think you'll feel "old"?

A girl I've known since she was a baby turned 19 yesterday.  DAMN, I'm old. I knew her when she was in diapers, now she's off at college. How the fruitcake did that happen?

I don't know that I've had a moment like that yet. (I'm 25 in a month). I do now feel like most teenagers are idiots though, lol. At least the ones that I've been around lately, lol. I'm not really sure what that moment will be though. I'll let you know when it happens! : )

Hopefully this isn't too embarassing, but my friends and I use to wear earplugs to concerts when we were in highschool. We saw bouncers wearing them and after screaming at eachother after the concert (cause our ears were ringing so bad) we decided to try them at the next one if we were close to the speakers....which we were. We found the same thing you did Bside, that you could hear the music even better and at that point we were converted at 17 maybe. We also noticed that bouncers gave us more respect even when we were at the barricades once they saw our earplugs.

My old moment is that someone I used to babysit is now a father and no he isn't a teen dad either...sigh.

I had a moment yesterday when I saw a kid wearing a shirt with the name of my high school on it (I'm visiting the folks for a few days in my home town) and "Class of 2014" underneath it. Damn.

I hurt my back this weekend.  FBD had to help me out of bed.  At 25 I'm already a cripple.  That was my moment

Wow, I can't even relate to that because I rarely go to concerts, especially in that type of venue. Usually if I go to a concert, I'll go to one in a stadium where you don't have to worry about the speakers lol

As for feeling old, I feel old all the time. Like when I brought DD #1 in for her first day of pre-school a few years back and realized that it was the same room I went to pre-school in. Or when my little sister who is 11 years younger than me got her diver's permit. Or how about this weekend when FI and I went out with a friend of his and his wife from work, and we went to Dave and Busters, but by the time we finished eating at 10pm we were all tired from the day so we called it quits early.

Oh, and the fact that I regularly go to bed before 10pm and wake up before 7 even on the weekends definitely makes me feel old on a regular basis.

I wish I had a dollar for every 'damn, I'm old' moment I have.

    - That the kids I used to work with when I was a summer camp counselor are now in college.
    - The macro that's been floating around Facebook lately about how kids today will never understand the relationship between a cassette tape and a pencil.
    - That my 10-year high school reunion will be next year. O_o
    - The clinic I work at serves ages 18 and up. I've started seeing patients who were born in 1993.
    - The last anime convention I went to. Oh god, never again. I'll be sticking to old fogey fandoms like Star Trek from now on, thank you very much.
    - Not only are my friends from elementary and high school getting married and having babies, now my younger sister's friends are too. O_O
    - Every time I find out a TV show from my childhood has made it onto Nick at Nite.
    - That the (awesome) '90s radio station I listen to is considered 'retro'.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: "Damn, I'm Old" : Haha my mom was an aunt at age 2.  If her niece/my cousin had kids when my mom did (at age 20), my mom would have been a great aunt at 22.  She didn't become a great aunt until about 41 though.  My generation of cousins apparently isn't too into children or anything (I have 23 first cousins on one side - and only one of them has kids). Oh wait, I think my two cousins who I don't know have kids.  Or one of them does.  So maybe she became a great aunt earlier.  I'm not sure how old those kids are.

<div>Ha, this sounds like my family. My mom was a great aunt at 42, which means my uncle became a great uncle at 26 (he's only 7 years older than me). Three of my cousins are younger than my niece.</div><div>
</div><div>As for me, I started realizing a couple years ago that most bars are just way too loud for my taste. I'm always saying things like 'I wish they would turn the music down in here so we could talk!'. I'm 36, and damn proud of it :)</div>

At FI's BFF's rehersal dinner, two of the brides BM's (bride and BM's are about 3-4 years younger than me) didn't know who Chris Farley was. When I mentioned Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, etc, the one said "OH!! That funny fat guy!"...kill me now.. I about cried.

FI's sister got her license a few months ago. I'm not going to lie, I teared up the first time she drove somewhere by herself.

My dad's youngest sister is actually a few years younger than her oldest niece.

BFF and I went to a Paramore concert about four years ago. We were also the oldest who weren't parents/chaperones. Before I got there, one of the moms asked BFF if she was there with her kids.

Yeah, we felt old. I also have been known to break out the earplugs at concerts.

I LOL'ed so loud at this!

I had my 10 year h.s. reunion this spring and I have a little one who is going to be 5 in a couple months.

I feel older and older every day, but BF really rubbed it in the other night.  We were lazy all day after partying into the wee hours.  We were watching football and he said he didn't think he could even have A beer, I said I'm not feeling a beer, but a captain and coke sounds pretty good...then I made myself a cup of lavendar chammomile tea instead, because I didn't want the caffeine in the coke to keep me up all night.  He said "so you opted for the tea instead of the drink huh?" with a smirk and I jokingly said "Well you know sometimes I just like to act like an old lady and sit and sip tea while I read your playboy magazine and you nap".  He said, "Honey, it's not sometimes...and you're not acting".  It was funny but I was like OH GOD!  I AM OLD! :(
