On Friday, FI and I went to the Panic at the Disco concert. It was not a very large crowd (by this venue's standards) but I had no desire to be up at the very front (my three friends I was with though, fought their way to the barricade). FI and I hung back by the bar, where we had a great view of the stage, but the misfortune of being very close to the speakers. In addition, Panic at the Disco has a young fanbase (I think FI and I were the oldest people there who weren't chaperones or parents), so screaming teenagers was a huge factor.
Between the opening acts, we chatted with the bartender. FI noticed that she was wearing earplugs and said, "I wish we were as smart as you!" The bartender then informed us that they sold earplugs at the box office, and FI was on his way in a shot!
The earplugs were perhaps one of the best decisions we'd ever made! We could hear the music perfectly, without the added noise of screaming or any sort of blaring from the speakers we were so close to.
While we were waiting for Panic at the Disco to come on stage, we started talking about how old we felt being at a concert while wearing earplugs. I mean, even at the age of 24, we seemed to be the oldest fans there (there probably were fans who were as old or even older, but where we were standing - surrounded by teenagers - it sure felt that way).
The next day, FI's best friend, who had been at a KORN show on Friday, posted on Facebook about how she was now too old for the mosh pit and decided that from now on, she was going to hang back (she's 27).
So, have any of you had a "damn, I'm old" revelation? When did it hit you, and how old were you? If you haven't hit that point, when do you think you'll feel "old"?
