Anyone do any work with animal rescues?

We are moving to a pet friendly townhome in June and I'm starting to research our options for adopting two cats. We are really hoping to find a bonded pair of adult cats who need a good home.

My question is this: we both work fulltime. Are we going to be at a disadvantage because we are typically gone for 8 hours during the day, Monday through Friday? We were hoping for two so they could keep each other occupied while we are out of the house.

Also, we have vet records for the cat I adopted who lives with my Alzheimeristic grandfather and the lease that sayswe can have pets. Should we plan to have any other documentation? I know all rescues are different but I've always taken my cats in as strays, I've never officially adopted from a rescue and don't know where to start.

I rescued my cat from the Humane Society, and they didn't question me at all about my work schedule. Brady stays home by himself all the time... he's a cat. That's why I got a cat & not a dog, because of my wonky work schedule... I work 12 hour days pretty regularly, plus I travel and now I'm at the BF's several nights a week. They also never asked to see my lease.

I think most shelters are less concerned with hours away from home with cat adoptions. A cat has a bathroom option if you are not home...a dog on the other hand needs to be let outdoors. The biggest concern i've heard with adoptions is not leaving the pet unattended outdoors (risk of animal theft, runaways). Basically, the adoption center is most concerned with finding a FINAL home for the animal. If you are responsible and have the financial means to support a pet, most adoption centers should not have a problem approving your application.

My BF just rescued a puppy (about 4 or 5 months old) and he works 8 hours a day M-F as well. They didn't seem to mind his work schedule, and like PPs said cats tend to be less of an issue.

I work at a humane society. On our application, there's a spot asking how long the pet will be left alone on average, but for cats, it's not really a big deal if you're gone for 8 hours a day. They're much lower maintenance than dogs. They may want to call your landlord to confirm that you're allowed to have pets, and check in with your previous vet to see what they thought of you as an owner. That's basically all my work wants to know. And honestly, the sad truth with cats is it takes a long, long time for them to be adopted (it's not rare that cats are in shelters for at least a year before going home) , so they're (or at least we're) much more lenient with their adoptions. You wanting two older cats would likely be a bonus.

I do some volunteer work for my local sanctuary. We have a mom and baby right now who were bonded when we brought them into the sanctuary (October). Mom is starting to warm up since she spent her whole life outdoors and baby will come around shortly after I'm sure. Mom cat was always more outgoing and would run up to us for food when she was living outdoors. They're very malleable and friendly.
If you're not interested in them necessarily, I could at least point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your help ladies :)  Good to know we aren't going to be tossed out for working full time and being able to afford two animals, haha!  There are plenty of rescues in the area with cats and I found a pair of bonded adults that I'm crossing my fingers are still available by the time our move date rolls around.  We'll see :)
