PSA: invisalign

I am now on my third set of trays for Invisalign (meaning I've been on it about 6 weeks) and I'm already seeing a difference with my teeth alignment! It is uncomfortable for the first day or so each time you upgrade to the next set of trays, but unlike braces it doesn't tear up your gums. And if the pressure of new aligners gets too much, I can always take them out for an hour and put 'em back in. It's so much easier than I expected!!! My top teeth will be totally straight in 5 more months and then I just wear my last top aligner as a retainer while I sleep, and my bottom teeth about 10 more months! But they're barely visible - FI couldn't even tell when I had them in or not, and he's got perfect vision and is pretty observant. I can see 'em and feel like I smile a bit differently when they're in, but otherwise they're so easy. I do try to be subtle about taking them out in public when I have to eat, usually covering my mouth with a napkin so people don't have to watch me yank these saliva stringy plastic trays off my teeth. That's really the biggest downside, though.

So for anyone considering them, I highly recommend it! I saw my last set of bottom aligners (they take a mold of your teeth and then using a computer program, design the entire course of treatment, made up of a series of clear plastic aligners designed to be worn for 2 weeks each to slightly shift your teeth a bit each time. So they have all the aligners already, and I just upgrade every 2 weeks).

Cate, I'm glad to hear it's going well. It sounds like it was worth the extra money over traditional braces.

Awesome that that's working well!  We were supposed to seriously sit down and talk about doing them before 31 May, but we didn't.  So, without medical (and dental) insurance, I seriously cannot afford them right now.  But I am DYING to do them.  My bottom teeth are a wreck with the crowding.

I was thinking about getting Invisalign because my wisdom teeth ruined my almost-perfectly-straight teeth.

If anyone feels comfortable sharing, how much did you have to pay out of pocket? I think my dental covers orthodontics, however I have heard that that doesn't always include Invisalign.

I think my co-pay was supposed to be around $5000.

I'm glad they're working for you!

I can in no way afford invisalign... WAY too spendy.
