Groomsmaid?

Ok... My FI really wants even sides on the wedding parties (I told him it was okay to be uneven). He has been going around and around, trying to figure out a 4th groomsmen. I suggested he ask his best girl friend. What would she be called? My guess is groomsmaid? grooms women? I don't know... Suggestions? He isn't 100% sold on the idea yet. I think it's a great idea!

For the wedding I was where they did that, they called her a groomswoman.

Groomswoman is the one I've heard the most. I've also heard honorary groomsman, but its not really important what she is called.

The lady of the grooms.  I think it's a great idea to have a female on his side! I have yet to see it in a wedding but I have heard of it before.  I'm not quite sure what to call it, though.  Groomswoman, groomsmaid, either way everyone will know what you are talking about.

I've heard groomswoman. Friends of mine are having a groomswoman.

I had one of my brothers stand up for me on my side. We called him my bridesman. He got a lot of crap for it but he took it really well and was really happy to be included in the WP. :)

I think people worry too much about even numbers of men/women or even sides. What's important is to have your closest friends up there with you!

In our program we named the "Matron of Honor" and the "Best Man" and had everyone else under "Wedding Party." My brother stood on my side and DH's sister stood on his side. Bro wore the same tux as the groomsmen, and SIL wore the same color dress as the bridesmaids (they each chose their own dress in the color I picked). It worked out very well.

We also had uneven sides. We're just a couple of weirdos.

You could just call them all "Groom's Attendants" so it's more gender neutral.

But if he's trying to think of a 4th person, it means there isn't a clear choice.  In which case, I think it's probably best that he stick with the 3 people he's closest with and not worry about even sides.
