Eats, Shoots & Leaves

With all the lovely correcting of grammar, spelling, and punctuation going on in other threads, I was wondering if anyone here has read Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss.

Yes, it's a book about punctuation, and it is both hilarious and informative. If you have not read it, it's a book I think many of the ladies here would enjoy.

I've been more observant of punctuation since I started reading this book. In a meeting last week, I ended up fixing all the comma splices in the document we were reviewing. They were horrible!

And yes, I support the Oxford comma.

"Elements of Style" by William Strunk is a great book too. READ IT, noobs/people who have no concept of proper grammar/puncutation.

Ahh, Strunk & White. I had that in college--perhaps I still do have it in a box somewhere.

I had to read it for AP English in high school. While it's not a very interesting read, it is quite informative and helpful.

I also support the Oxford comma!  But that might be because I'm used to working with APA format.

This book is required in all of my PR classes. It is the ultimate lifesaver when it comes to grammar! I know that grammar can get tricky but I feel like a lot of people don't realize how much punctuation and proper spelling add to what they are writing. A misplaced comma or misspelled word can entirely change the meaning of a sentence. Obviously no one is perfect but proof reading posts is a really good idea if you don't want your message to become obscured! its hard enough already to portray proper emotions without facial expressions or vocal cues, bad grammar makes a difficult communication setting even worse.

Omg!  Someone else who loves the gun-toting panda and knows what an Oxford comma is?!?  Leia, can we be friends?

You bet, Elle!  I found that my coworker across the hall is also a fan, so I then had to introduce him to the Cake Wrecks blog.

The unnecessary quotes are hilarious. Whenever I see that, I figure they must mean the opposite.

I loathe unnecessary quotes.  My senior year of HS, a lot of girls wrote:

    Have a great summer, "Amy!"

...like that's not really my name?
...like they know something I don't know?
    WHAT'S MY REAL NAME, DAMMIT?
