Dream Job F/U

Just followed up with Dream Job, again. They still have no openings and a back log of people who have already been hired waiting to start when openings become available. They have no idea when they will be scheduling new interviews, but I will "more then likely" be called for an interview whenever they start up again.  

I am trying so very hard to not be discouraged by this, or feel like I'm getting 'led on' by them. I just feel like there will never be a light at the end of the tunnel. 

Sorry to be such a debbie downer, but I wanted to keep you all in the loop since you were all so kind in encouraging me to apply.

I'm sorry, it is rather frustrating.  They did seem to say they would probably call when they were doing interviews again.  Meanwhile keep applying for other job opportunities and see what happens.  It will all work out.

Jordan- Dream Job is a position as an Assiatant County Prosecutor. I interned at the office during law school and loved it, but had to pass the bar before I could apply. I really really really want to work there, but its an election year and the current prosecutor is not running, so there is a lot confusion there right now. 

Dancer- Thanks, I'm still applying for anything related to my feild, but there's not much out there. 

I'm actually thinking about looking into getting my teaching certificate, esp if the market doesn't turn around here soon.

Is the teaching job market better there?  Where I am it's pretty hard for recent grads to get full time teaching work.  That is a great idea, it couldn't hurt to get the certification.

<div>It's not fantastic, but places are hiring.  I would want to teach HS, so that might make it easier. I'm also going to look into getting a masters in political science (as an alternative) so I could teach at the community college level. </div>

I know a LOT about the teaching job market right now. What would you be interested in teaching, Lennon?

I started college wanting to be a HS history/ social studies teacher, but after some twists and turns ended up with a Poli Sci BA, then went to law school. If I go back, I want to history or the social sciences.

I love the law, I really do. I like being a lawyer, and ADORED working at the prosecutor's office. But in this market I'm not really sure how much of the rest of my life I can put on hold while I wait for a good stable position to open up or for me to build up my own practice.

Lennon, If you're happy in the law, you should stay.  SS positions are very competitive, just like law, and you'd have to give up a lot to go back to get certified. Stay where you are! It'll work out. You'll be in the same boat with more tuition costs looking for a SS position... especially if you don't coach. It sucks, but that's the way of it.

Lennon, I am so sorry this is frusterating for you. I am in the same boat(ish) right now. I had a dream interview for my dream teaching position.. and everything went perfectly. I still havent heard from the principal, but when I called and talked to the secretary she told me no decisions have been made and that she WILL call.. so its frusterating waiting. Its like I know i am still in the running otherwise they would have already cut me loose, but some insight as to WHAT is happening would be lovely! Keep your chin up, everything has a way of working itself out, and the right job will come along at the right time.. thats what I keep telling myself at least!!!

The job market totally blows.I just graduated with my Bachelors in the Human Services/Social Services field and jobs are HARD to come by. I interviewed Monday for a case manager position, and have a second interview Monday, but I am  not holding my breath. I have applied to nearly 80 places and ONE has called me back. I'm thankful for that one, but it is so discouraging. I am ready to work!
