Not Engaged Yet

Brain Cancer

Ladies,
I've been out for a few days, in Texas for an airshow.  While I was enjoying a wonderful (working) weekend, some friends were experiencing something else entirely.  Just last night I found out that a friend of mine, engaged to marry a wonderful girl, Megan, was having to postpone his wedding because his bride-to-be had been diagnosed with brain cancer.  She underwent surgery today at Duke to find out more about her tumor and we are hoping to get more information in the next few days.  The groom-to-be, Ed, is an Air Force pilot as well and I know him through another wonderful couple with whom I attended pilot training.  I have never met Megan but, knowing Ed and my other friends, I'm sure she is a wonderful and amazing person.  My heart is breaking knowing that they are in for a difficult battle and I'm doing everything I can to spread the word.  We'll be putting information up in BF's family ski shop this week and I'll put up the same info at work.  I also have it on my Facebook page and have called every single friend I can think of, in the Air Force and not, to let them know.  I can't be there to support them but I feel this need to support them in any way possible.

Anyway, I would not normally post anything here that requested "help" of any financial sort.  I'm just asking you all to please help spread the word.  My friends Kiel and Mike (also AF pilots) have started a website to spread the word about Megan & Ed's situation.  The more attention and support they receive, the better.  The website is: TeamSzczepanik.com.  There is background information, merchandise (proceeds direct to Ed & Megan for expenses that are starting to come up outside of standard medical bills), you can donate, or just leave a thoughtful note on the guestbook.

Thank you all so much, in advance, for whatever support and kind words you can provide to them.  I'll also try to keep you all posted as I learn more.

This is so sad. I will share it. Thoughts and prayers are definitely with them.

Everybody give their SO an extra hug tonight. This is just a reminder that what we have is precious and shouldn't be taken for granted.

Yes.  Maybe it's the fact that they are so young and having to go through this or that they are so closely connected to my world . . . whatever it is, I have felt so - shaken - since I found out.  Thank you all SO VERY MUCH for helping to spread the word and for keep Ed & Megan in your thoughts and prayers.  You girls are amazing, as always.

Wow Meg, that is really really sad.  I can't even begin to imagine.

I'll pass the link around to my friends & on FB & Twitter.  Going to give FI an extra big hug later today when I see him.

That's terrible. I feel so badly for them, and she's so young. Her description is heartbreaking. I'll definitely share the link and will be giving BF a big hug tonight as well.

This is very sad news, Meg. :(
I wonder if they could team up with some artsy person on etsy or something and design ornaments or something for a donation...

You could also tell friends and family that you would like them to make a donation to Megan instead of any christmas presents this year. Just an idea.

Liv is right -the CaringBridge page is really touching-

And so many expenses that will never be covered by health insurance...like flight arrangements and hotel stays for family members. ::sigh:: Oh goodness. Crying in the morning.

I'll make a donation when I get paid on Friday. :)

Meg, I prayed for your friend and his fiance this morning. I cannot fathom having to postpone my wedding for something so awful. I feel for them and their families and wish them all the best!
