Poetry and Sunday

I am reading Tennyson for my English.  He has some great lines!  Behold!
love is love for evermore.
Many a night I saw the Pleiads, rising thro' the mellow shade,
Glitter like a swarm of fire-flies tangled in a silver braid.
Gah!  That gives me the shivers.  :)  I love Tennyson!  I just wanted to share his awesomeness incase anyone has every missed his genius!  Anyways, what is everyone else doing this rainy (for me) Sunday afternoon?  I am just doing homework at Starbucks, all day...

That's a nice one, Raven! Alfred Lord Tennyson rules. Speaking of three-named British poets, I also love William Butler Yeats:

I WHISPERED, 'I am too young,'
    And then, 'I am old enough';
    Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
'Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair.'
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.

O love is the crooked thing,
    There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
Till the stars had run away
And the shadows eaten the moon.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
One cannot begin it too soon.

(I will admit I first heard this poem in the movie "Must Love Dogs." Christopher Plummer recites it pretty darned masterfully, if you ask me.)

Love it, Ray.  I'm looking for things like that to use as readings for our ceremony, since we're leaving religion out of it.

I worked on lesson plans/grading all day. Now I'm sitting here reading Dirty Little Secrets. A good book, but really sad :(

Elle- what kind of stuff are you looking for?  I just finished up with the Romantics so there are lots of good quotes from them :)  Now we are doing the Victorians who are just as bad as the Romantics. :)

Marley- I love Yeats too.  :) He has some great stuff!   Read it!

Ember- I don't remember... what do you teach again?

Well, when I say "I'm looking," I really mean "I intend to look".  It's going to be a while before I start actively compiling stuff for our ceremony, but I want to include a few classic, secular, beautiful pieces, so definitely feel free to send me anything you come across.  :)
