Not Engaged Yet

Best Man Joined the Army :/

Well... Has anything similar happened to you, ladies? I found out from my fiance-to-be (who is saving up for my engagement ring) that his childhood best friend, who was to be our best man in our 2015 wedding, ran off Monday afternoon to join the army after being fed up w/his family who was forcing him to attend college. Good thing it happened this far ahead of the wedding instead of after tux fittings, etc. were finished & plans made, eh?

Re: Best Man Joined the Army :/

  • Oh holy hell.

    1. You do not have a fiance-to-be. You have a boyfriend.
    2. You do not plan a wedding before you're engaged.
    3. This supposed wedding is THREE YEARS from now. I promise you that a) the military does provide leave, AND an affordable travel system (aka free) for service members, and b) that IF he is still your BF's BFF when the time comes, barring a deployment, he'll probably be able to be there.

But truth be told, NONE of this matters because you are NOT engaged.

This situation is the perfect example of why you 1)shouldn't plan your wedding 3 years in advance and 2)shouldn't plan your wedding without actually being engaged.

Also, way to make joining the millitary sound like a jerk thing to do. . . because it really isn't.

Tell your BOYFRIEND to man up and say congratulations to his friend for making the choice to serve our country. Who cares if he did that? I have plenty of friends in the military and girls that married guys in the military. They find ways to be there if they are asked, and if they cannot (you know in the instance that he is over seas and cannot get leave) well don't fill his place.

And for heavens sake, stop planning a wedding when you are not engaged!

Based on this statement, I'm betting you just graduated high school, and are therefore way too damn young to be getting married in the first place. You aren't engaged, therefore you shouldn't be planning a wedding, especially not selecting a bridal party.

Also, way to make his commitment to serve his country all about you.....real klassy what you did there....

Seriously. That part of OP's posts really disgusts me.

OP - maybe now is the time to be thinking about the huge life-changing decision your BF's (not fiance-to-be or future-husband or other bullsh!t) best friend just made and to support him in deciding to serve our country. Was he supposed to wait three years to make a major life decision for you maybe someday wedding?

    How old are you? 17?

Go live life out of high school for a few years and then maybe think about getting married. You don't need to be thinking about weddings AT. ALL. right now.

  • Wow, just wow.

As PPs have pointed out, stop trying to make it sound like joining the military is a bad thing. Also, please tell me what is SOOOOOO terribly wrong with having a service member in your wedding party? I am actually honored that ALL of my FI's side of the bridal party are serving in the US Army. FI talked to them and they all seemed pretty sure they'd be able to make it, but if not, that'll be okay too.

Seriously though, making it sound like your BF's BFF did this horrible thing to you by running off and joining army 3 years before you'd like to be married, makes me think not so kind things about you. You're not engaged yet. You don't have a fiance-to-be. Your "Best Man" did not join the army.

Exactly. Oh, and by the way, you have zero right to impart your judgements on your BF's friend unless he's physically harming himself or others. And joining the army? Doesn't fall into that category. Falls into the "trying to make a better life for himself" category.

  • You're 20. You've been together 7 months. You're preplanning a wedding when you're not engaged...this imaginary wedding is set to be 3 years from now. You're angry at your BF's BFF for joining the military 3 years before your imaginary wedding. And all of this makes logical sense to you?

Let me in on a little secret: the world doesn't revolve around you. Even when you actually are engaged...and your wedding is soon. You can't expect everyone to drop their lives for your PPD, especially not that far in advance and without an actual engagement.

You, my dear, need therapy...and a hobby.

Serving this country is an honor, and something good for himself. Dont be such a selfish bratt and get over yourself.

    THIS!
  • I'm LMAO that one of her "hates" is narcissism.

  • Aaaahhh. Thank you for posting her profile questions, from the bottom of my little heart. If I met this chick IRL, theres a decent chance I would slap her. I mean, someone needs to.

So much annoying craziness there, I don't even know where to begin.

[QUOTE]Screen Name: Pilot&Virologist1820 but my real name is April Age: Do I have to answer that? People might laugh @ me for being so young! Ok, ok, I'll tell you; I'm 20. Significant Other's Age: Daniel is 18 What You Do: I volunteer @ Riverwood Therepeutic Riding Center in my spare time, I'm jobhunting relentlessly, I'm working on my A.S.-Biology degree @ a community college before I transfer to NC State for my B.S.- Biology degree w/a minor in animal science. I'm a Sunday school teacher, I cook all the time for my family, & I volunteer @ local veterinary hospitals. What SO Does: He's working on his degree to become an aviation systems mechanic, he works @ Target, walks dogs to get a little bit of $ on the side, cooks, washes dishes, mops floors, cleans toilets, washes & dries & folds laundry, makes sure his family's home is spotless. cooks, makes sure his father gets to all of his doctor appts. on time, & works hard to make me feel honored, cherished, respected, & understood. State of Relationship: Serious. Neither of us want anyone else An "open relationship" (a.k.a. glorified cheating) was not an option either of us even wanted to consider How Long You've Been Together: Well, he's been in love w/me for 5 years. I have been in love w/him for 9 months. However, we have oficially been together for 7 months. How You Met:I was @ church one Wednesday night when the pastor announced a new family from Vermont was coming to join our church. I went down to greet them @ the end of the sermon & the rest just took off from there :) Wedding Date (if you're engaged/married): We are not yet engaged (He's saving up for a ring) but would like to get married some time in 2015 Real Babies: NO, NO, NO, NOOOO!!! NEVER!!! We wanna adopt. Babies are awesome but I dont want to suffer pregnancy & birth. Besides, there's a 90% chance that getting pregnant could kill me anyways due to a medical condition I have. Fur Babies: He has 4 poodles: Honey & Phantom, their son, Bug, & their daughter, Muffy. I have 4 cats; BooBoo, Moses, Streak, & Puma; & 4 dogs; Lindy-Lou, Bozo, Zoe, & Nicole. We each want our own horse one day, as well :D Loves: Horses (both of us love them), Hiking, deer hunting, rifles, shot guns, camping, swimming, SPICY food, sushi, fashion, shopping, boots, skinny jeans, COLD weather, eating healthy, Pilates, dogs, virology, succeeding in everything I set my mind to do, Dr. Michael Youssef & Leading the Way Ministries, & my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ who died for all of humankind! Hates: Liberals, socialism, people who twist the Bible out of context, unhealthy food, narccissism, people who have a sense of entitlement, eels, mayonnaise, temperatures above 80 degrees, housework (I'm a slob so I'm VERY glad to have a neat-freak BF!), telemarketer calls (especially before 9 am), snarky professors, slow Internet, chick flicks, & trashy comedies. Pet Peeves: Spoiled preppy moms, wearing loose clothing, people who use poor grammar & punctuation (thou I admit mine is not perfect), Yankee accents, thick & twangy Southern drawls (I'm looking @ YOU, Jennifer Nettles!), & people who use the word "barbecue" out of context. Hobbies/Activities: Hiking, fishing, archery, deer hunting, studying virology (one day it WILL save the world!), shopping, cooking healthy foods, swimming, Pilates, & my BF is teaching me some MMA. Favorite Thing About Your SO: He is a fantastic housekeeper, he has the softest & waviest espresso colored hair, & he is so incredibly dedicated to making me feel like a princess Least Favorite Thing About Your SO: sometimes he isn't the best communicator in the world & very rarely his neatness bugs me (I mean really, making sure his, my father's, my mother's, & his burger wrappers were folded into neat symetrical squares before he threw our trash away? Seriously, he does that all the time...) Describe Your Personality: I'm a person of contrasts! I could be in Target in skinny jeans & sparkly high heels & reading a bowhunting magazine. I love looking ultra-glam every chance I get but I DO NOT like acting girly! I can ourburp & outfart obese guys & I'm not lying. No one would guess it from my appearance, but I'm actually a Conservative voting, church going, Christian, Bible believing girl. I love the city & I love the country; I can't have one & no the other. I can assimilate well to my surroundings & I love to make friends & make everyone I meet happy :) But don't get on my bad side or I will not hold back on giving a well deserved tongue lashing! Snark Level (1 [low snark] - 10 [high snark]): 2. I'm only snarky when I joke or if I come across someone who has gotten on my LAST nerve. I've Been On TK Since: 05/31/12 How You Came to Be On TK: I like the magazine so I decided to try out the website :) How I like my potatoes: baked, mashed & made w/greek yogurt instead of butter & milk, or in a hot bowl of Brunswick Stew next to a serving of Lexington style barbecue & a glass of sweet tea! Favorite book/author: Suzanne Collins (the Hunger Games Trilogy) & Timothy Gateman (an up & coming author of the War series who just got the 1st of 5 books published) Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself: What I put in this post is pretty much it about me. But If I do need to put something interesting here, I'm deathly afraid of tornadoes!

This sounds like an errotic oral sex move.

Anyway, you sound like a wonderful person.... You HATE someone just because they are liberal? So you pretty much hate at least 1/2 the people posting on these boards.

I want to know what you love about virology. Tell me about some viruses. . . I'm a PhD student in microbiology so I'm curious about your thoughts.

Also, what is a Yankee accent?
