so! who wants to help me plan a shower...

one of my best friend's is getting married in May (that's the real reason i started coming on here)

i'm a BM, and i'm planning one shower for her. we *thought* February would be a good time to have it (school break as both bride and groom, as well as 3 BMs and 1 GM are in school). thennnnn today i was talking to the bride about a couple's shower. she said they'd really like that over a traditional bridal shower. so that's cool. any ideas on that?

alsooo... the shower is now set for some time at the end of August/early September. so it will be less busy and better weather in case we want to do a BBQ.

i wish this had come up, like 2 months ago.

i'm thinking of having it at a Gastro Pub downtown. it's family friendly (so the underagers can come) but it also has a full bar. they have a pool table and dart boards and all that, and they rent out that as a room. so we could do like appetizers for everyone, and then people buy their own drinks? or maybe we'll see if we can buy pitchers of beer and keep the 16 year old away from it.

Sounds like you have a good plan!  We really enjoyed our couple's shower, it was nice to be celebrated as a couple and I think it's a sweet idea to honor the bride and groom's relationship and not just the bride for being a bride.

I also had a surprise bridal shower thrown for me, however, and it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be!  Just a small group of friends, some cheap champagne, a cake someone made, lots of laughing... So I would encourage you to throw her a mini-shower in Feburary, too, and keep both simple.

Yes, keep it simple! It doesn't have to be over-the-top. The best part of my bridal shower was spending time with family and friends.

You could do a game or two. I thought the one that asked questions about the bride/couple to see who knows them best led to some hilarious jokes and stories. And everyone can play that! There was also one about what I was wearing (barefoot or shoes, color of my dress, what my engagement ring looked like) which was fun.

You could do a theme for gifts- like home improvement or kitchen gadgets (if they're both into cooking).
