WR: Cakes and GMs

Morning ladies.  I know it is Friday so a ton of people aren't around but I need some help.
How does one go about finding a good and cheap cake vender?  I am at a loss.  Clearly I can Google, "San Francisco Cake Venders" and next Friday I am going to the city to taste them but I have no idea what kind of questions I should ask? Or how I could get discounts?  Should I do cake or cupcakes? Which do you think will be cheaper? (Haha I am cheap.  Ok I am on a budget)

Then GM.  FI wants to wear something like this: http://weddings.theknot.com/Real-Weddings/76506/detailview.aspx?type=3&id=76506&STOPREDIRECTING=TRUE,TRUE&wedding%20details=Formalwear&pageIndex=1&PgReferrer=results.aspx

He is thinking about letting his GMs where slacks and vests (Colored blue of course ;) )  My dress is really formal and I have no idea what my BMs will be wearing.  Would that look bad?  Would they look too informal?   Thanks for being awesome.

I don't know anything about cakes, but I really LOVE those gray suits! I think they are classy.

How close to SF are you getting married?  Could you use a vendor in Sac?  Sac vendors will be cheaper.  MUCH cheaper.  We used a vendor in our local town and I am still amazed at how inexpensive our cake was.  Plus it was delicious!!

PM me if you want info.

I think that if your FI wears a gray suit with a vest, then the GMs could do navy blue pants, a light blue/white shirt and a gray vest to tie it together.

What are your colors?  Any inspiration pics?

I think in general cupcakes are cheaper, but you should check with each vendor to be sure. Things to ask: do you charge extra for cake flavors besides white/chocolate, do you charge for cake fillings, can I rent a cake/cupcake stand and how much is it, is there a delivery fee, how close to the wedding can I make changes to the order, what is the deposit required, when is the rest of the money due.

Oh and also, another common thing to cut cake costs is to have a small tiered cake that you and your husband cut, and then to have sheet cakes in the back for the remaining servings.

I really love those pictures Mutley!
Well I am getting married in San Fran so that is about 2ish hours away. I am afraid of the cake falling over on the car ride but you are right everything will be cheaper that way.
    Colors:

Each BM is wearing a different color.

Now FI is saying he might like to wear silver.  Like this: http://www.contemposuits.com/vinci-shiny--silver-2-button-mens-slim-fit-suits-s2223.html
Yaga- That is what I am afraid of, hence why I am asking.
Mooko- Thank you!  That is exactly what I need!  You're the best!

Raven, you might see if my cake vendor is available. She doesn't do fancy fondant, but our cake was pretty, tasted good, and was $3 a slice. She'd probably charge a little extra for travel, but it might be worth exchanging a few emails.

I told him he would look like an alien.  LoL
Ya. So for the wedding I was in that is what we did but there is no way in hell I am doing that for my own wedding, because it is a DW.  If it was in my home town, no problem.

Teehhee...The silver kinda looks like duct tape.

So is DIY cupcakes a no-no?

I think it could totally be done....it would just be a lot of baking.
