So, about a year and a half ago I decided I want to make some kind of international experience part of my undergraduate education. I have no interest in doing a full exchange, but something shorter (a week or so) is right up my ally. I'll be graduating next Fall, so I only have a couple terms left to do this, and applications are due in the next month.
I've known about a cultural exchange program with Mexico for a while, where students spend a term studying Canadian culture, then go to Mexico for a week and a half and learn about Mexican culture and social issues based out of Mexico City. The program only runs every 2 years, so this February would be my first (and last) opportunity to participate. On the trip, we'd visit with locals in Mexico City and surrounding area, and also do a bit of sightseeing.
I just found out about a new program that will be running for the first time this July-August - a service-learning trip to Peru. We'd fly into Lima and volunteer in near-by towns and do some sight-seeing for 9 days, then fly to Cuzco and visit Machu Picchu.
I'm having a really hard time deciding which to do. I can't afford to do both. BF feels strongly that I should do one over the other (I won't tell you which), and I think I agree, but it is the more costly of the 2 trips and the timing isn't as good for a variety of reasons.
WWYD? Have you done anything like this? Suggestions, opinions...anything!
