This thread is about animals

Okay, so the dogs thread was heartwarming and tear-jerking. Let's talk about some sweet things animals do (hopefully not too sad so I don't cry at work).

Last week, DH and I had 5 days off school and work for Mardi Gras. Don't ask why... it's a cultural thing here I guess. Anyway, for 5 days we pretty much stayed home with our cats, slept late, played video games with kitties on our laps, and so on.

Well, when it was time to go back to our regular schedule, apparently Pouncival didn't like it. The first day we got out of bed at 7am, he sat in the middle of the bed blinking at us and making little short, scratchy, sleepy meow-sounds. Like "Why are you awake? It's sleepy time still."

Then, he started coming to bed with us instead of staying up to play in the dark. I wake up every morning with him laying on my shoulder with his face tucked into my hair, or with his big 15-pound body sprawled across my neck like so:

I guess we spoiled him by staying home all that time. He tries his best to prevent me from getting out of bed by pinning me down and purring so loud DH can hear him from across the room. Sweet boy. <3

Now, you tell a story about a sweet animal!

My cat (Kiki) and my dog (Remi) pretend like they don't like each other. He chases her around the house and they wrestle around a lot. Every once in a while I will catch them being nice to each other and it is so cute! Sometimes they will sleep on his pillow together and she will lick his face. For some reason she likes to eat his food. Usually he chases her off...but I was able to get this pic once of them sharing his bowl. I think they would really miss each other if they weren't together.

Aww, those are cute stories, you guys!

My cat, Marlon, does some pretty cute things. He's also insane and likes to run around and jump all over the couch.

If I'm upset and crying, he will always come sit on my lap and purr. He also always comes to the door when I come home. He hears my car pull up outside. :) And if I'm headed to the bathroom when I get home, or when I come downstairs in the morning, he follows me into the bathroom and purrs and rubs up on my legs while I'm, uh, well, in the bathroom. Weird...but really cute.

ETA: Here's a pic of him dozing in a purpleheart drum shell. I tell BF Marlon should be the mascot for Addiction Drum Design, but he thinks he should have a more "bada$$" mascot, like a badger or wolverine. :)

Lucy has recognized the sound of my car horn locking my doors from the parking lot. Whenever she hears it, she can be dead asleep, but she'll jump up and run to the door and lay in front of it, waiting for me to come through the door. When I come in, if I don't sit on her and let her kiss me (she presses her nose against my mouth like a person kiss) and love on her, she meows at the top of her lungs and tries to trip me. So I always have to sit down and let her do her lovin' first. ;)

She also does some funny things, like wrap herself up in my clothes.

My puppies (well grown dogs now) are sisters. They will lay with each other, fight over toys, and run around the yard all day. At the end of the night though, when everyone goes to sleep, they have to lay down and snuggle together. They always have to be touching, it's the cutest thing.

My puppies are pretty sweet, okay, they aren't really mine, they're my parents...but still.

Crazy is our oldest.  She's toothless, and rotten.  She spends her days waiting for my brother, and if anyone tries to touch him, she'll bite your face off.  In all her toothless glory.

Peaches is my baby.  She's 6, and LOVES ball.  We'll come back to her in a second.

The cause of everyone's pain and suffering, but mostly Peaches', is Zea.  She's our two year old yorkie.  And a MONSTER.  I sing the chorus of Lady Gaga's "Monster" to her, but instead it's "My puppy's a monster..."  She has taken over my parents' bed, and Peaches has been ousted.

    n1573230055_30232436_4676102.jpg

Peaches, therefore, has been relegated to a basket on the floor.  And when I come home to visit, she only sleeps with me.  Talk about the best way to come home.  To a puppy who only wants to snuggle with you, because the rest have abandoned her for the most monstrous thing in the world.  Not really, but that's how she sees it, I'm sure.

    n1573230055_30053439_3956.jpg

Peaches also has the longest tongue in the world, and an inability to keep it in her mouth.  She likes to stick it up your nose.  :-)

My large yellow lab likes to roll in dryer sheets, fresh laundry, and towels that have been wrapped around shampooed hair.

The fox red lab pictured will open doors and play with my 11lb pomeranian. The pom tried to sniff the lab's butt this morning, but had to jump.

We also have a beagle, and she likes to jump on your lap and stare at you. Not moving, just staring in your eyes.

Our dog definitely prefers a schedule. He'll be out of sorts for about a week when we change it.

Jeana - How do you sleep with that cat across your neck? I don't think I could do it and I like animals and have no allergies.
  • edited December 2011
Sea Tea, the pom jumping to sniff the lab's butt is HILARIOUS. That's determination right there!

Hazel, I have gotten used to it, I guess. The night we adopted Pounce, it was like we had a new baby. He was awake the ENTIRE night, and wanted to cuddle and play and just have our attention. We tried to sleep, but he was walking all over us and head-bonking me and laying on my face, and bringing us toys.

When we got Etcetera that same year, it was new baby all over again. We got NO sleep because she was running around exploring, Pounce was chasing after her and hissing when she did things she wasn't supposed to do... it was wild.

I guess over the past few years with our two kitties... especially Mr. Cuddleface there, DH and I have gotten used to what is normal for them. Pounce sleeps between us or on my arm... and now apparently on my neck. Etcetera plays and plays until the wee hours in the morning, then jumps in bed to sleep between DH's legs or on my feet. We just kind of don't move once we're asleep now unless we really have to.

If we hear something unusual, we still wake up immediately. One early morning, Etcetera was walking back and forth across our pillows and staring in our faces. She doesn't meow often, but we knew something was up because she wouldn't settle down and go to sleep. We turned on the light to see what on earth was wrong with her, and poor Pounce had a little diarrhea on the foot of the bed and in the litterbox. She was telling us something was wrong with her brother. Frown

I think maybe it's similar to how you get used to the "normal" sounds of your home, and sleep through those. But when something unusual is going on, you wake up.

I just usually hand offer it to them.  If they are hesitant to try it, I make sure they watch me take a bite first.  Almost always they will try it after they see me eat it.  Anytime I am eating something at home, I give them some, unless it is bad for them.  They love orange juice.  I'll make them plain oatmeal, but I'll use orange juice instead of water.  They love chocolate milk too, but like the fries, that is also a special treat.

Good to know.  We are re-claiming our green-cheeked conure when we graduate in May from FIs parents, and as of right now, she won't come to us without trying to rip our fingers off.  New foods may be a good incentive for her to quit biting,  My skinny fingers can't take it.

I didn't know birds can have those things! It's not bad for the stomachs? I really didn't know you could give them orange juice. My birds are probably pretty upset with me for never giving them any. I'm going to give them some later.

Jeana, I've always wondered why your kitty is named Etcetera. Care to share?

Our dog used to always greet me at the door when I come over to my parents' house, but she's going deaf and doesn't always hear me. So I find it funny that now my almost-17-year-old kitty almost always comes to the hallway to greet me when I come over.

This picture is getting old, but here's my favorite photo of Tabitha. She's a bit skinnier now...a byproduct of old age.

My dog Gabby likes to give hugs. I lay down on the floor, put my arm out and say hugs and she lays on my arm.

She also gets protective of me when I start to cry. She stays right by my side until I stop.

My dog can somohow steal the covers and take up the whole bed.  It's ridiculous.  He weighs 12 pounds.  Here he is last Christmas after getting a major haircut (usually he's afro-dog) and a Snuggie:

My cats are both complete cuddle bugs.  When I'm not available to meet their cuddling needs, they turn to each other:

And SeaTea, that professional picture is gorgeous!
Edit: I just went through the thread, I didn't see half those pictures the first time! SUCH CUTE ANIMALS! And sparkles, that cat is awesome.
My grandfather had a badass parrot named Casper. One of those white parrots with the yellow feathers on their head. My grandfather would have people pretend to hit him and Casper would chase after them...a loyal parrot! He was a scary bird, but he was awesome..even though he didn't eat bacon :). My gramps passed away a few years ago, I don't know what happened to Casper :(
    anyway,
    These are my guys!
