Not Engaged Yet

Shhhhhhh....

Quiet night on TK! Must be other people have a real life. BF and I had dinner. Mine came with cosmos - who knew? And then decided we should get married in a bar. Sounds crazy, but you should see the courtyard! Gorgeous.

And now he says, "But then we'd have to get married in spring or summer." Eh. Good point.
KUI. Totally worth it.

It's usually fairly quiet at night and on the weekends here. I'm working my way towards KUI since I was just reminded again how dumb my family is

Dumb family? I can relate. Spill.

I just found out my brother wrecked his truck by driving into a ditch and taking out a stop sign because he was driving drunk. Luckily he didn't go to jail for that - he DID go to jail because he got stopped on some other occasion for an outstanding ticket and smarted off to the cop. He's currently living with my dad right now and I can imagine he's less than pleased. I mean he's almost 30 - he should be more responsible than this by now.

Eeek. My family is a little off too. I've got a sister that got pregnant "by accident" - at 29. It was her second "accidental" pregnancy. First was at 23. Even at 23, you know how it works.

Sorry about your brother. Hopefully he learns from this one or gets some help if he's got a problem. Better to learn it this way than by killing himself or someone else.

Everyone's family is crazy. I have a 30 year old brother that is a total hermit. He's doing really good now, working 30 hours a month. I'm serious, that's good.

Hetshup - is your brother agoraphobic? That's some serious stuff. If he's just lazy and anti-social, that's different, but agoraphobia is a serious condition. Sad.

He's a self diagnosed agoraphobic, but he goes to raves and smokes a bunch of pot. So, there's that.

Hetshup--I think we have the same brother! But mine is 25 and still living at home.  To make it even better, his gf lives in the bedroom I grew up in.  He'll never leave at this rate!

We have tornado warnings here in STL. The sirens were going off for a while... Our building is really safely built and we have an underground garage.

<div>I have lived in Chicago. As an adult, I've lived in four different cities over the span of 4 years. Boystown= gay area. Yes, St. Louis has a Boystown... I absolutely love our neighborhood. St. Louis is maybe not the most exciting place I've lived, but I absolutely love our neighborhood (*kind of random St. Louis City crime and all). I'll make references to being in different cities... you'll get used to it ;) I usually get the hell out of STL at LEAST once a month for a change of scenery too!!! </div><div>
</div><div>Not Paint (can't remember poster's name):The drink is pulled but what names do you want me to drop? The models from GlamourPuss? (My favorite is "fishstick"). The shoe designer sample sales that are happening next week? Lady Gaga? You'll soon get used to my very, very overly descriptive way of sharing information. It's a talent and a curse ;)  </div>

That was me, name dropping is fine, well b\c you know that you are and chide yourself properly.

I was thinking about your ring... what about a vertical three stone? I have small hands too, and I have a 1 carat, but it would look really strange with more.

<div>My personal role model is Dolly Parton. I think it explains oh so much, lol. I openly admit I like my labels, but that's really only like 1/10th of my BSC. You either LOVE or HATE the other 9/10th, haha. </div><div>
</div><div>I actually like the look of a horizontal three stone. I have tiny, carny hands... My fingers aren't long and thin. They are just really thin and my fingers are on the shorter side rather than longer. I don't think it'll be "too much" with what I wear day-to-day, since my style is usually pretty discreet (I usually covet rareness). My daily uniform is usually black (or white) skinny jeans, a grey top and uh, that's it. I carry kind of a gaudy bag (because it's neon, AWESOME, and in tribute to late artist Stephen Sprouse) but that's only to and from work. My boss actually jokes that I look "Amish" most of the time and gets excited whenever The Witness comes on TV, lol. It's not like I look like I stepped off the set of Dallas or anything. </div>

I'm quite familiar with Boystown. I'm usually surrounded by gays. I'm a great hag.

As far as labels go, I'm 99.9% unaffected by them... except....

SUNGLASSES AND HANDBAGS! OMG I would give a kidney for the right handbag or pair of sunglasses. BF teased me before I moved here for having 3 pairs of sunglasses. Whatever. Many more where those came from.  When I moved, they got their own box because I have so many. I lost a pair last week and was actually happy. I'd worn them for years and wanted a new pair but couldn't justify it to myself. (I go through periods where I justify expenses, and then periods where I go, "I work hard. I made decent money. Screw it - I'm buying new shades.")

I'm not a Coach or D&B girl. Who needs little ducks on their handbags? I'm more of a Furla, Kate Spade, D&G, and Versace girl. I confess to having spent more on a single handbag than any of my siblings' monthly mortgage payments. Maybe all three combined.

Sometimes I feel like I rotten person for this. Other times I feel like my siblings and I all started with the same opportunities and we all made different decisions. (Note: They feel sorry for me because, until BF, I was single and still am childless. Different strokes...)

<div>Funny enough, I actually only have two pairs of sunglasses and they were both gifts from my FMIL. I still wear my giant Tom Ford "Jennifer" sunglasses from 3 years ago and I'm happy that I haven't lost them. Handbags I'll obsess over because I looooooooove them, but I've gone from a new one every quarter to a new one maybe once a year since I keep going up the designer bag food chain. Since you love bags and are East Coast, let me tell you that Botkier and RM are having sample sales with VIP/Press starting May 9th in Manhattan. </div><div>
</div><div>What I spend money on is clothes and shoes. Especially shoes. I'm a 5.5 shoe size and the only cheap shoes I can wear all day without hurting are Havianas. For those unfamiliar, they are Brazilian flip flops with a patented rubber that won't cause the strap to give you blisters. I looooove them. </div><div>
</div><div>Paint, really though... everyone has their <em>thing.</em> I know some people obsessed about horseback riding, international travel, their cars, getting the biggest house they possibly can, getting licensed designer furniture (I have a friend that has a chair that costs more than my engagement ring!).... Heck, if you are lurking on Fark.com you'll see a bunch of nerds shun people that care about their cars, appearances or homes but then brag about their electronics, the obscurity of their beer, and brag about their degrees/tech jobs. <strong>Chances are the people that bitch and moan about YOUR handbags and sunglasses spend just as much $$$ on something you would NEVER.</strong> </div>

That's why I feel guilty - they couldn't afford these handbags or sunglasses. It would be the bag or the mortgage payment. Probably a whole paycheck for some of them. (Not the shades. I definitely have a bag that would a sibling's full paycheck.)

<div>Gotcha. My sister is kind of similar, but she just registered for school in the medical field and hopefully by the time she graduates, she'll get a job that pays more than mine. I help her out time to time, but not enough to cause her to be dependent on me. She kind of chose to not really do anything for SEVERAL years and just party/"model"/work on her art. Once she got more serious about showing her art, I taught her how to maintain a blog featuring new pieces and got her featured in a gallery. She's now on her own with it and she is showing, but I wish she would have figured this all out years ago! </div>

Blue Box have you tried reefs? I wear a 6- 6.5 and they are great. I had to go and buy some cole-haan shoes for the wedding because of my stupid narrow tiny feet. Of course there are stories of my grandmother dragging my mom all over England attempting to find her shoes that fit b\c her feet were so narrow.

I admit I don't care about purses or sunglasses or clothes really, but I am a total sheet snob. I love sheets and linens and I won't buy anything online because I need to feel them first.

I adore the bargain hunt. For example, my purse is this gorgeous wine-colored full-leather number that cost me $20 at Plato's Closet (yeah, I'm a broke college student.) but my most recent amazing deal was this full leather pair of Devon-Aire dress Dressage boots with elastic gussets and spur rests that I got for $75, when I had priced a similar pair of the same brand a couple weeks before at $350 ON SALE. I love bargain shopping...

<div>That's absolutely awesome. I love hearing about steals and deals! I sometimes get a killer deal (like a $500 pair of sequined Mui Mui sandals for $60 at Nordstrom Rack). I can usually find out if the price I'm paying is really the best I can do. I love designer clothes, but I can't afford to always pay the full retail price... I'm lucky that I know the retail industry like the back of my own hand, so I can usually time when I shop and for what pretty well. </div><div>
</div><div>Hetshup, I love good sheets! I can't bring myself to pay retail for the good stuff, but when I find a good deal I jump on it. Right now, we have Dwell Studio bedding in awesome neon colors that were exclusive for Anthro that I bought on sale for I think $40 for the duvet cover and another $40 for the shams. I can find some Dwell Studio on sale, but it's the white/black "sketch" print and we already have the chartreuse/neon yellow version :( I'm pretty sure my SO will call me out on my BSC tendency to keep buying the same thing. </div>
