Hell's Kitchen Anyone? (rant-ish)

I noticed that "Hell's Kitchen" started weeks ago and even though I'm watching, I'm less than thrilled about it. I used to be really into it, and my mother is a professional chef (as was my dad before he passed away), so we'd all watch together.

But I've realized lately that the show is more about Gordon Ramsay screaming obscenities and watching people botch simple cooking. It kinda ticks me off. Where's the talent here? Cooking is an art and these people are disgracing it.

It used to be a decent competition show, but honestly - are these people FOR REAL? Risotto is like Cooking 101, you people claim to be executive chefs, head chefs, had X amount of years in a professional kitchen and you can't make a damn risotto or poach a scallop or bake salmon or soft-boil an egg? My 19 year old friend makes a kick ass risotto and she's never stepped foot in a culinary class let alone a professional kitchen.

Anyway ... the show is becoming a total disapppointment and I know if my dad is up there watching, he's screaming at these stupid "chefs" just as loud as Ramsay is!

I tried watching that show, just can't do it. But I hate most reality shows. Too much characters and not enough subject.
I totally prefer watching Chopped or Iron Chef. So much more interesting to me,

I totally agree with you, bside!

These days, I much prefer Top Chef and Top Chef Masters.

    I totally agree with you!

It's like they pick their contestants based on potential drama and not their ability to cook.

I totally agree with you! My BF and I used to be really into watching previous seasons, but this year we just can't seem to do it. It's the same mistakes over and over again. People have seen this show before, where is the talent?

When was it ever about the cooking? I agree that there seems to be even less talent this season than before but I've kind of always thought it was about the drama and Gordon screaming at people.

I totally agree.  This season there isn't one person on that show that deserves to be a called a "chef".  I am not sure what the show is trying to portray but they are doing a terrible job trying to make it into a "cooking challenge".  I would rather watch FoodNetwork any day.

The first two seasons were really about the cooking. There was some legit competition (my father actually worked with the season 1 runner-up). However, it was all downhill from there.
