Wedding Checks

So, I feel Like I'm not ignoring the wedding anymore.

I visited my parents this weekend (the area where the wedding will be and half of the BMs live but all BMs are from) and got a lot accomplished.

1. Did a BMs dress shopping outting and all the girls have now ordered their dresses.

2. Went fabric shopping with my mom for overlays for the tables, so she is going to sew those for me.

3. Made a break through on centrepieces that appeases my mom and won't burn the tent to the ground.

4. Centrepieces are figured out, just need to gather some final items before updating the flowers order.

5. Did some wedding cake shopping. What is a reasonable price? Was the cake a big deal for you? FI could care less about the cake, so he isn't paying attention as much.

Re: Wedding Checks

  • Yay for checks!!

We're paying about $3.50/serving for cake. We tried several home bakers who charged $2-2.50/serving, but we really didn't like the taste of their cake at all. I couldn't care less what the cake looks like, I just want it to be really yummy!

  • it sounds like you got a lot done!  glad you're making some progress.  :)

we didn't spend a lot of money on the cakes...  H's aunt made his cake (she does wedding cakes for a business out of home), and I ordered mine.  my cake was "natural" (no fancy icing), except for an iridescent sheen added to it.  we added the decorations when they delivered it.  it was VERY good and turned out pretty without being formal.  I think it was $360?  I don't remember, but it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be.

    what are you looking for?
  • oh!  and we also ordered sheet cakes, to cut on the expense.  my cake(s) was to serve about 175-200 people, and his to serve the same.  of course, 400-ish showed up to the wedding so we had JUST enough.  we were only expecting 325, but H's family got a little out of control and just invited people to come with them.  sheesh.
  • We are still trying to figure out flavours and such for the cake. I'm not too fussy about things though and I got recommendations from my sister's friend who deals with this stuff alot. Just waiting to hear back from one person.
  • Our cake was a hit, both in flavor and style. We paid about 5 a slice and got lots of compliments on it, but I don't think you need to break the bank on it. Definitely taste test your potential bakers. Congrats on the rest of the wedding checks!

The dresses are from Alfred Sung, these are the links for each girl. The colour is ebony, although it sounds black it isn't.

I'll have to get proper photos of everything over Easter. However, the fabric for the tables is different cause I want the centrepieces mismatched. So, one is a gray and white polka dot (white being the polka dots), one is red and white gingham and the other is yellow and white houndstooth.

  • Nice work on the wedding checks!!  I've gotten a few done today too!!

LOVING those bm dresses.  We're going shopping in a few weeks and I really hope the girls can all find something they like.  We're doing the same thing - same color but they can pick their own style.

I have no idea about cake prices but around $3.50 seems pretty average from what I hear.  We're doing a sweets table instead of a cake, $3.50/person for a variety of things.  That's more up our alley since having an actual cake didn't really make it high on our priority list!!
  • Yay for the checks!

    I love the BM dresses!
