Do you know what really grinds my gears?

I hope some of you laugh at the Family Guy reference.. if not you should be watching that show.

Anyways pet peeve of mine-  when people spell my name wrong in an email reply at work.  How lazy can you be my name is in my email address and in my signature.  I know there are several different ways to spell my name but it's right there.  This happens quite a bit.  Of course I am lucky that this is my only grievance this morning, despite being tired.  Triple overtime during the Rangers game last night.

So what grinds your gears?  Is it anything in particular today?

Re: Do you know what really grinds my gears?

  • Totally got the FG referance. :)

You what really grinds my gears? Maryland drivers. Seriously. How is getting from point A to point B so freaking complicated? Merging is not a difficult skill to learn, and you shouldn't have to slow to 20 when on the highway because there's an abandoned car (with no one around it) on the side of the road. The mysterious traffic jams that happen for no apparent reason are super annoying. The day I give up my DC license for a MD one will be a very sad day for me.

P.S. Yes, this was after my awesome 1hr commute into the city from the bf's house at 6am. Should not take that long to go 30 miles on a highway!

I once received an email addressed to Mr. Heather.

  • I love the reference!

I agree, that is frustrating. I actually had a guy reply to an email I had sent as "Mr. Lastname". Really? Mr? I'm pretty sure the last time I checked Megan was never used for a guy's name.

What gets under my skin? Seems we have to make everything PC now a'days. I am a Landman (this is a job title). I realize that it sounds gender-specific, but that's just what we're called. There are a couple people at my office who want to change our titles to Land Negotiator. While I don't think it's a bad title, I EARNED the title of Landman...and I want to be a Landman. I also hate that people at my office probably assume I am a supporter of this title change simply because I'm a woman.
  • Princess - I went to HS in Maryland and my mom still lives there...so I totally get what you're saying about MD drivers! I definitely get more stressed driving when i'm back there visiting!

Heather - guess we can be "Misters" together!

I'm obsessed with FG so yay for that :)

I get emails addressed to Rosemary (my first name is Rachel).  My last name sort of SOUNDS like Rosemary but it's definitely not Rosemary & I get so frickin furious when I see something addressed to her. WHO THE HELL IS ROSEMARY?!

  • I don't think I've ever gotten the Mr. title in a email before....

  • MSU - I hate Maryland drivers.  Seriously.  I live/work in NOVA and every time I see a MD driver out on 66 in like Gainesville I scream "GO BACK TO YOUR STATE AND GET OUT OF MINE."  I'm quite bitter.

You know what really grinds my gears? My female coworker who thinks that misogyny and male chauvinism are totally fine because 'the world would be a better place if more men were in power' and 'households should be governed by the man alone'.

  • People spell my name wrong all the time... to the extent that it becomes a different name.

Both my first and last name are pretty uncommon; however, if you transpose the first letters of my first and last names, you get two much more more common names.  So people call me one of those all the time.  It drives me nuts.

  • What grinds my gears is that none of you hoars live near me.

Seriously though - people can't spell my first name to save their lives. I'm used to that. But how hard is it to spell Grear? I get Gear, Greer, and all kinds of weird stuff. Siriously... Not that hard of a last name.

I had a really good pet peeve that I thought of yesterday, but it had slipped my mind.

People spell my name wrong ALL THE TIME. The more common form has an "h" on the end. Mine does not. It's not like it's unheard of though to spell it like mine. I had a band teacher for six years through middle and high school that still couldn't get it right. My studio professor this semester (only 11 people total in the class) didn't even take the time to learn our names, let alone spell mine right. He called us by our project subject. This is a guy we had 3 times a week for 4 hours at a time for the whole semester.

Edit to add punctuation. Stupid Mobile Site.

    Love the FG reference :)

Also, I hate the name misspelling thing as well. My own COWORKER has my name spelled wrong in her out of office - she has to list me as a contact when she isn't available to her customers. She has my last name spelled incorrectly (a Z where there should be an S, which is a common misspelling of my last name) and despite having pointed it out to her, she has yet to fix it. It makes me seriously doubt her common sense.

  • Also,

Being told by Boss Man that it's nice to see me dressed up. I've looked rough the last two weeks.

Fvck off, dude. I work in construction - it's not in my job description to come in to work in a skirt and heels every effing day. Plus, it's been a real stressful last couple of weeks. I've been picking up your slack, so cut me some, k thanx bai.
  • This morning I'm mad that Kohl's charged me twice for my online order I placed yesterday. Stupid.

I also HATE when people spell my name wrong in an email. Grrr. Not only have I been with current job for 2 years, but my name is obviously RIGHT THERE. c'mon people - don't make yourselves look like complete idiots.

Another pet peeve - terrible drivers. I like to laugh when drivers weave in and out of traffic, tailgate, and speed like crazy, only to be stopped at the next light like the rest of us.

  • You know what really grinds my gears?  YOU AMERICA!  tehehe, I love FG

Along with the name thing, I'm so used to it by now, but no one gets my name right.  Not just spelling, but calling me a completely different name all together.  It gets frustrating...and that's why I told H we are naming our kids something very normal, with almost no variations of spelling.  It sucks going through life always correcting people.

As for the Mr titles, at least your names aren't Maxwell Drew...that poor girl has a long life of being assumed as a man.  I also had a girl friend named Michael, she got that ALL.THE.TIME.

  • My name being spelled wrong is also a huge pet peeve of mine, especially when I have sent you an email that has my name all over it!  I get that there is ALOT of ways to spell it but c'mon.  I even get Sheryl and Shirley WTF!

Also stupid questions, mostly from the men in my office.  Just this morning (before my first sip of coffee mind you) sales guy comes in to my office

T- do you have any staples or does M have them
ME - did you look in the supply cabinet...where all the supplies are kept
    T - no (blank stare)
ME - You should probably start there and then let me know if we need to order them

It's no wonder he's divorced...seriously if BF asked me stupid ass questions all the time we couldn't be together.

  • I really hate when people ask me how to spell my name. It's five letters. It's easy as crap, seriously?

I also hate when the same solicitor number has called me a million times, three times in one day and I never answer. I told them a million times to stop calling me, take me of your call list, and leave me alone.

  • I came up with another one.  When co-workers heat up their food in the microwave and then just leave it there after it's done cooking.  I will wait a minute or two for you to come back for it but if you don't I'm sorry. I will take your food out and put mine in.

  • I can completely sympathize with the name spelling thing. One of our vendors keeps spelling my name wrong, even though I sign my name correctly on each reply hoping she'll get the hint. This has happened my WHOLE life though, so I'm used to it.

My name is also unisex so I've had plenty of people assume I was a guy before they met me.

    <div>
</div><div>Our apartment building has a community laundry room and I was doing my laundry one day and had both clothes in the washer and dryer and the washer finished before the dryer so I was waiting ten minutes until it was ready to put the clothes into the dryer. Well I went about my business and as soon as I came back to put the clothes in the dryer, someone had taken all of my wet clothes out of the washer and set them on top of the dryer, and just left them there.</div><div>
    </div><div>
</div><div>Ohhh I was pissed. That's not only gross but the thought of someone else man-handling my clothes skeeved me out. So after my dryer load was done and all of there clothes had just been sitting in the washer (done) for twenty minutes, I did the same thing to them. I was pretty peeved and I was like well if you think it's ok to touch someone else's clothes and stick them on top of a dirty dryer, let's see how you like it. </div><div>
</div><div>And then I felt guilty, but not really.</div>

We've had a slew of wedding invitations and STDs lately. Everyone has been contacting me on FB for BF's full name and our address. Then, after I've emailed it to them, they still spell it wrong. Or they don't use his last name. Or they call him the wrong name altogether. (Brett instead of Brent.)

I could understand if you took a shot in the dark, but to email me for it and then misspell it or screw it up anyway? Yeah, no. That's just silly.
  • People can never seem to spell my first name right.  I get there are a lot of ways to spell it, and I don't mind when people ask to make sure they have it right.  Its the people that ask, or that I know well, who STILL can't spell it that drive me nuts.

No one can pronounce BF's last name, which also bugs me.  Or spell it.  I'm totally looking forward to that :P
