Not Engaged Yet

Thought I'd finally introduce myself

I have decided not to be a "lurker" anymore and introduce myself to the NEY community.

I have been dating my BF for a little more than 2 years.  We are currently in a long distance relationship.  It is one of the most challenging experiences of my life and I know that once we both get through it, it will be one of the most rewarding.  We have been long distance since August and at first I filled the void of him being gone with a wedding obsession.  That obsession brought me here which is awesome because this site has pushed me out of it and slapped some sense into me.

That being said, I do LOVE Harry Potter (I would take my kitty to Hogwarts with me) and have NO IDEA what an engagement pony is. I love burritos more than any other food, especially if they have roasted green chile and potatoes!

So far I really like this community and would love to get to know it more!

I guess I should also state that we are long distance because he needed to move away for his career and I am about to finish my bachelor degree in Biology.  Transferring this late would have been too expensive and a major migraine.

"OMG He's acting really funny... and I'm trying really hard not to think about the proposal but OMG OMG OMG! Do you think he's going to propose this weekend? I think he bought the ring! OMG!"

"IT'S A PONY!!!! WOW, he got you a pony, that's awesome!"

(ie, convince yourself it's NOT a ring and stop thinking about it and enjoy the anticipation and let him surprise you)

    THAT is an engagement pony.

Ah, so engagement pony is a mantra for getting the mind off a ring.  Thanks for letting me know.

I actually bought some mac and cheese today at the store! LOVE it, but only the kraft blue box regular tube noodle kind, or homemade baked :)

Aw man, I missed what the troll said.

Welcome! Do you like pickles? Sour? Half-sour?
  • edited December 2011
    Thanks bsidebella!

I neither hate nor am obsessed with Twilight.  I find both the books and movies to be a simple and enjoyable form of entertainment.  I have a few problems with the movies, main one being the acting.  I'm an ex theatre (costume design) major and bad acting in movies irks me.

GPB, the troll put in two words, half of which were correctly spelled :P

I like crunchy pickles that are not sweet.  I have to limit my pickle intake due to my GERD, an evil heartburn problem :(

Ooh...gerd sucks. I have a borderline gallbladder problem, but I still eat all the crap I'm not supposed to.

Where in NM are you based? I know a ton of people from Santa Fe.

    Eep gallbladder problems :(

I still eat my green chili :) I can't live without it :)  my GERD can suck it!

I'm currently in Albuquerque and Santa Fe gives me the heeby-jeebies!

I always wanted to open up a restaurant in Santa Fe, with a private corner banquette in the back.

We were LDR for 2 years or so (grad school/finishing undergrad, etc)

But we also knew each other before we were long distance.  We talked on the phone, a lot.  He's worth it though :)  And now we live together all non-engaged like.  It's good times.

MissOwl, long distance for 6 years sounds awful! It makes my year sound like nothing!!!!  I am so glad that you made it through! I cannot imagine doing my whole undergrad long distance.

Blue and Catfish, you girls are amazing for getting through 2 years long distance!

I think that living with my BF before he moved away allowed us to strengthen our relationship and build our communication to where we will make it through this LDR.  Stories from fellow long distancers and my military-wife cousin DEFINITELY help out A LOT!

Welcome!  I think distance can definitely bring out the crazies - it was when BF and I were long distance that I went a little off the deep end.  I think mentally planning out a time when you'll be together, and more importantly, symbolically connected forever, helps make the distance feel temporary and not so important in the scheme of things.  However, while semi-planning a wedding that isn't in the immediate future might be somewhat cathartic to some women, in the long run it adds stress to the relationship and can give pressure to the guy that is unnecessary.

Sounds like you've figured that out!  Welcome!
