Wine corks

So we're getting married at a vineyard & I absolutely love the idea of using wine corks to hold the escort cards.  So I asked some of my girlfriends & was going to ask some of my family if they would save their corks for me to use.  I also thought it was a cute way of kind of getting them involved in the wedding.

Well my one friend thinks I should just buy corks because the used ones will smell & if they were from a bottle of red wine they'll also be stained.

What do you guys think?

I would buy them. Not only will the used corks have stains, they may be somewhat torn up from the corkscrew. If I saw a used cork at a wedding I would probably think "ew" even though it's not like anyone's mouth was on it.

I've seen corks at Wal-Mart in the cooking aisle. Maybe you could get them cheap there??

Well- having friends and family save them is kinda special. Andrew and I have tons of corks since he saves them and wants to decorate a table with them. I don't have any problem with them smelling. They have personality....but they will be stained.

You can also buy corks that are customized with your names and wedding date...which guests can easily turn into a keychain if they want (I have a cork on a keychain).

Allusive I didn't even think about them being torn up.  Hmmm

Lunar, I did not know you could order them & have them personalized like that.  I'm going to look into it, I kind of like that idea!

I keep my wine corks (have for several years) and wanted to do a project with them.  I decided that I, too, will be using them as place card holders.

They don't smell.  They are stained from the red wine, but that is okay with me.  I like that they are all different and I think it is a good idea for your friends and family to collect them for you!  I agree with Lunar that it makes them a little more special.

Yaga did they have anything on them?

Liv, I like that design a lot too.  There's a lot you can do on that site.  You can personalize them to say anything you want also for an additional $15.

I'm so torn between used/not used but I really like the personalization so I think we'll probably end up ordering them!

This is a little bit of a P&R because.... well I'll have to be an AW/PW & start a new thread for why :)

I couldn't vote because I'm having a similar dilemma! I think we are going to do the same thing, using wine corks for the escort cards. FI doesn't want to use our saved up corks (we've been saving them for 18+ months) because he wants us to keep them, so I think we're going to buy them. They are pretty cheap ($22 for 100), though I haven't seen any personalized. That's a neat idea!

Umm yeah, so you inspired me to go look at some wine cork things and look at what I found! I totally think this would work for us. Instead of 'South Beach...' we'll put a little tag with the person's name. We'll put our names/wedding date on the cork.

I love the idea of wine corks.  I think the idea of new ones works better they won't be torn or stained or have any odor on them.    I also like the key chain ones tiger posted.
