Honeymoon question

So FI and I filled out an inquiry form for a cruise.  The representative called me and told me that if you book really early, you can save a lot of money by guaranteeing that the rate never goes up.

I'm not doing any wedding planning until almost a year from now.  But would it be weird to book the honeymoon before we do any planning all in the name of saving money?  We wouldn't have to pay in full, just put down a deposit (which is refundable).

As long as the deposit is refundable that sounds perfectly reasonable! Its one thing off your list of things to do and worry about. And its something fun to look forward to!

We booked our cruise about a year and a half away from the wedding. The price actually just dropped 400.00 4 months before the wedding. I think there is no harm in going ahead and booking it. However, I know on our cruise there is still over 100 rooms open so its not like you have to rush but it isn't something you have to wait on either. I just decided to go ahead and book it earlier this year to check it off our list.

It all depends.  I mean, if when you start doing your planning you learn the date you want isn't available what will you do?  Will you be okay going on  honeymoon before or possibly several months after the wedding?  Or will you decide you want to switch your honeymoon dates?  Because if its the second, I don't see it doing you any good to book now.  But if you know that you'll be fine doing this date, regardless, I'd go ahead and put the money down, refundable or not.
