WR: Yay! I saved some money!!

I reserved our venue a while back and then got an email saying if I was a member of the parks, I could get it for a reduced price. So I called and asked if I signed up to be a member, could I get a refund and they said yes! I just have to go in and fill out the paperwork. It's like a $15 fee, and I'd save $250. So I'll take that money and to use to reserve the hall the night before and still come out ahead AND be able to decorate with plenty of time! So excited right now, lol.

Yeah, this is so true. I'll feel better when it's all done though. I have to turn in the paperwork tomorrow. But I've been freaking out about having enough time to decorate and get ready and shower before the photographer comes. Now we'll have everything done the night before! They don't let you come earlier than 10 AM and you have to rent 2 full days to be able to set up the night before, so this is just awesome. I guess what you all said about good luck coming was right. Or at least, that's how I perceive it, lol.

Haha, it's already spent, before I get it back, actually. That's what I'm using to pay for reserving the hall that Friday before the wedding. I don't have to pay a damage deposit though and I'll have the reduced membership price, so I guess that'll leave me with about $112 dollars.

Of course, we still need a cake and a whole list of other things, lol. I'm so happy that we'll get more for the money and some money back though still.

Wow, that's great news! I love saving some money =) There's nothing bad about that at all!

But what does that mean, "a member of the parks"? Did I miss something?

Oops, sorry. I got excited and forgot to explain that. We're having our wedding at one of the metro parks near us. It's a small park, but pretty and on the river. If you sign up to be a member of the parks (you donate money, but can also donate your time to volunteer for different things), you get a discount on reservations.

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured. The worst they could do is tell me no. I was ready to bargain though, lol. But to start out, I always prefer to try to be nice. I think it's more effective that way than to call and already be tearing into them about how it's not fair if they don't give the refund and stuff like that.

FMIL was ready to call up and complain right away when she heard we probably could have saved a bunch of money. That's her usual response. From what I've seen, it doesn't work very often and FI and I end up being embarrassed, lol. Luckily she didn't have their number!

The lady was really nice though and put me on hold a couple of times, but definitely didn't give me any trouble.

Totally agree, kindness goes a long way. No one wants to go above and beyond for someone who isn't nice to them. (I know I wouldn't!) thank goodness your FMIL didn't have the number!

I also like to treat people how I would want to be treated, and I know I wouldn't want someone charging after me when I'm not even directly in charge of it. Plus, I always feel better when I am nice to someone rather than seeing them as the enemy, lol. I'd try to do that "do one nice thing for someone once a day" thing if I actually got out of the apartment once a day. I did give someone a front row parking spot the other day though. We both got there about the same time, technically him a second before I did, but I had the right of way to turn first. I ended up parking about 10 cars down instead because I knew he wanted the spot. It made me feel good even if it's just a little thing.
