funny story/advice needed

So my BF and I just put in an application for a bigger apartment. The application asked for my last place of residence, but that was with my ex and I wasn't on the lease, so I called my Dad to let him know that I was putting on the application that I had lived at his house for the past 2 years before moving in with my current boyfriend. I did live in his house for a while because it was vacant at the time but only for one summer.

Today he called to tell me that he got a call about the application, and that they asked him a bunch of questions, one of which being "are you related to the applicant?" and he said NO! Mind you we have the same last name so that was totally insane. He made up some story about how he knew me through a mutual friend and that I had paid him $600 a month. He thought I wanted him to pretend to be my landlord! I am so embarrassed. I know he was just trying to help but it is painfully obvious from the app that we are related. I almost feel like I should call the rental office and apologize? Or should I just forget about it and move on to a different apt? I am so bummed because this company owns a lot of buildings in the area where we want to rent. I really don't know what to do. UGH.

Aw! hmm... Lying is sooo tricky like that.

Gosh, I dunno what I'd do. I think I'd probably move to a different apartment--ha.

Yeah I suppose I deserve it but I almost had to get a restraining order on my ex because he tried to ruin my life when we broke up so I certainly didn't want them to call him! haha

No, no judgement. I would've done the same thing. That's cute that your dad make up a whole story. I'm just saying I don't have the balls to explain the situation. But you should actually try that. Say that you were telling your dad how much you wanted this, and he thought it'd help if you weren't just his daughter, but an awesome former tenant. Andplusalso he is senile. ;)

That's pretty funny. Are you in a hurry to find a new place? If not, just wait a couple days and see what happens with the app. If they call you asking any questions, just move on to a new place.

Yeah,  it is pretty cute that your dad tried to help like that :)
Even if your last name isn't commmon, having the same name is not unheard of, so it could be a non-issue. If they call you on it, as the others said, it couldn't hurt to just tell them the truth. Or at least a partial truth cause you still want them to think that was your previous address.
Sucks that your ex is so vindictive, mine was the same way :P
