FI finds this weird, do you?

I got a call today from a woman who works for a company called Maxim Healthcare. They provide home health care for patients. She said she saw my resume on Monster and wanted to set up an interview with me if I was still looking for a job. I told her I was and we set up an interview for next week. I also got a some more information from her as well as the company's website. I checked them out and everything seemed fine to me.

So I told FI about the interview and he told me he found it weird that they contacted me about a job. He said "with the job market the way it is I think it is weird that they are so desperate that they would be calling people for interviews whose resume they found on Monster and didn't actually apply to their company". I did not find it weird at all but he seems to think that it is.

What do you guys think? Is it weird that they contacted me based on my resume and previous work experience from what they found on Monster? I currently work in health care as a contract worker so I am sure that is part of the reason they contacted me.

Sorry to post and run but I have to run to the grocery store so I will be back in a little bit.

Did they ask for your SS#?  Account#?

If not, nothing wrong with setting up an interview.  Google the company and her name though.

I dont think its wierd. isnt that the whole point of monster? Its for both people to find jobs, and companies to find employees. It makes sense to me that they would first interview people they find with the right qualifications rather than sift through hundreds of resumes that people send in. If it was wierd why would monster even have an option of uploading your resume?

Skyler - I do not find this at all odd.  That is exactly how I got my current job and I work for a Fortune 500 company (almost Fortune 100).  Many companies hire recruiters to prospect potential employees.  Just do your research on the company (which I'm sure you plan to do).  There is a site that current/former employees post possible interview questions, base salary, etc.

    Click

You have to register, but it's free, and you will get better information from past employees than a recruiter or interviewer about what you can REALLY expect from the position.

    Good luck!

I actually used to work with (not for) Maxim Healthcare.  They were a client of mine, and I'll tell you that it's a legitimate company.  They're a pretty big company, if it's the same one I worked with.

There's no harm in going for an interview - just be sure to ask any questions you may have and get any offer in writing (which you'd do anyway).

The one time I was contacted by a company, it was a scam. It was one of those companies where you sell stuff, and then they say someday you'll own your business and find your own employees to see stuff. I can't think of the term for what those companies are called. I actually went for 2 interviews before I figured it.

Thanks for the help gals. I did not think anything of it but then FI brought it up. I didn't agree with him but I wanted to know if I was being crazy,

They have not asked for any personal information or anything like that and my mom (who is a nurse) said she knows of Maxim Health Care so hopefully it will all work out. We will find out on Tuesday.

    Thanks everyone!

For what it's worth, my company is currently hiring for a great job but a rather hard-to-fill role - we need someone who speaks Spanish and Portuguese.  Anyway, the guy doing the hiring has been calling people he's found on LinkedIn, Monster, etc.  So that's an example of a reputable company that's reaching out to potential hires.

I stand by the fact that there are definitely jobs out there.  The problem is that there are so many unemployed people that the main ways of job hunting get clogged up - submitting resumes online is a black hole.  Sometimes the company has to find the people that work for them.

You're in med school, and live in DC.  So no.

And unfortunately, Spanish alone doesn't work for this job.  They have to call Brazil a lot.

Pyramid Scheme? They're more cleverly disguised these days. I don't know for sure if that's what you almost fell for, but that's almost what I fell for. I figured it out on my second interview when they asked me for money up front. I felt like such a fool, but luckily I caught on and didn't give them any money.

I know why your FI is concerned, with the economy sucking right now, but some companies still need to hire people, especially to replace those who retire or leave. With some companies, sometimes they really don't like people who have applied so they use programs like monster.com to find potential employees that they feel might be more suited for the job.

I'd say don't worry about. If I were a company these days and found 10 decent resumes on Monster I'd offer them interviews instead of putting up a poster and getting 1000 responses that I need to go through.

Chances are they want someone fast and you lucked out that they found your resume.

I agree with everyone else that it seems OK. That's how Monster works a lot of the time, and if you're able to find legitimate info on the internet about them, then go for the interview for sure!
