2012?

One of my roommates and I were talking, and she believes in 2012. She said she doesn't necessarily believe in the exact 12/21/2012 date, but believes the world is going  to shiit and something will happen soon.

So... what's your stance?

I believe that 2012 will be here eventually.  So, yes, I guess I do believe in 2012.

No.  I believe no one will know when the world will end so I am confident that the world won't end on that day!

This. Also, pretty much every generation thinks that the world is about to end. I personally think it's along way off.

Fun thing - did you know that that date is supposed to just be the end of the Mayan calendar? I don't know that I believe everything is going to bomb on that date, but that is mostly because of the fact that, to me, the end of the calendar just means it repeats.

I believe the year 2012 is coming...faster than I thought it would. I don't believe the world will end though. It's totally silly.

I do believe the world will end someday, I just don't think a little over a year from now will be that day. I figure it's probably longer off than that.

I agree with everyone else. Also, if I spent essentially the last 23 years of my life in school and the world ends the year after I graduate I will be *really* mad. There are wayyy too many things I want to do first that don't involve paying $40K a year for classes

Kelly - I was at a softball tournament at Penn State on the day of the "Rapture" last spring... and I remember thinking that if the world ends and I'm watching softball in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania, I'll be P!SSED!! haha!

Another funny thing about that day - there was a group of people walking around campus wearing white robes & carrying signs. I really, REALLY wanted to follow them & see what happened when they DIDN'T get raptured.

I don't think anyone will know what will happen, or when it's going to.

I agree that things are going badly in the world, but I don't think it will end.

OK, here's a bit of a history lesson....

In Judaism, we follow a different calendar that is older than the Gregorian calendar that is more commonly used. Therefore, according to the Jews, the year is actually 5772. So I'm not worried about 2012 - we've already been there

But in all seriousness, as for actual 2012, I don't believe in it. I think it's silly, and I've actually done my research. The reason why the Mayan calendar ends on 12/21/2012 is because that sequence of numbers, especially the number 12, is very sacred to their culture. It has no apocryphal significance.
