Is this just a Canada thing?

I haven't noticed it on American news like it has been on the Canadian news.

Do you have Movember in the US?

If you have no clue about what I'm talking about it is where men grow moustaches for the month of November to raise awareness for prostate cancer.

FI is contemplating doing it, but since he'll be in CA for most of November he's unsure whether or not he'll just look creepy to people.

There are Movember signs all over our campus....and I TOTALLY haven't heard of it before.

I've heard of Movember, but not Manvember. Maybe it runs down from Canada to Texas, but hasn't made it to the coasts yet?

ETA: I'd probably let FI do it. It's for a good cause and it's only a month. I say that now...

FI definitely grows a beard on occassion, the only thing reigning him in is that he doesn't think it looks that professional.

Once he gets past the awkard growing out stage, I don't mind.

Liv - I completely understand, I strongly encourage FI to groom his beard and keep it trimmed. otherwise he looks like a wildman.

Several of my old college friends participate in No-Shave November, but there is no real reason or cause behind it to them. Just a reason to shave everything on Oct31 and then grow it out throughout November. I think they take before and after pics and sometimes compare beards.
Guys in the US do Manvember - they just don't shave their beards for the month. It's not to raise money or anything as far as I know. Guys just want an excuse to grow out their beards. Posted by yaga13
This. I hadn't heard of it until this year, but I know of a couple guys now that are doing this.

Today I learned of Novembeard. Same premise as Movember, just the beard version. Ick.

BF better not be participating. He gets pretty scruffy on the regular since he's a tradesman so he doesn't have to be clean shaven for work. But by pretty scruffy, I mean a week without shaving. It's not that bad. A whole month would just be gross.

Here in the mid-west (as far as I know) we refer to it as No-Shave November. BF shaved this morning so I don't think he is participating this year.

FI did Novembeard last year. Our families made fun of him but he was a manager where he was working, so no one there really cared. This year he's in a more conservative job, not managerial, so he can't participate. I can't say I'm upset.

I thought certain males in my life were going to participate in No-Shave November just for the hell of it. But I was promptly corrected that it won't be happening. I can't say that I'm upset about it.

I didn't know you could raise money for it. What if all women stopped shaving their legs in October for breast cancer awareness?

Here they call it No Shave November..

But those involved in building Aggie Bonfire don't shave their facial hair from the last week of August to the last week of November... so BF is sporting quite the gross moustache ( because he can't grow anything else)

BF told me a few weeks ago it's about prostate awareness. I didn't know there was a fundraising aspect to it. He can't grow any kind of facial hair, so I don't have to worry about his participation. :)

Maybe I'm wrong about the fundraising aspect. I have a friend that works at a hospital, so she talks about it. Perhaps it is just their hospital that does it?
I've heard of Manvermber, not Movember. However, BF is prohibited from participating -- he already grows out his beard for ice fishing and it is SO NASTY. Last year he grew it out from November through February and I told him never, ever again. I know it's his face, blah blah, but it was disgusting. He is Portuguese and Lebanese so he is super hairy and the beard was from like his cheeks down his neck. We have agreed he can start growing it after New Years for his February fishing derby...I can semi-handle one month.
    Posted by LivLeighton
Bahahaha! My family is Portuguese and my FBIL is Lebanese, so I can only imagine the two combined. Holy hairy.

Yes, I have heard of Movember. My ex is really into it - I see him plastering stuff about it all over FB frequently. I think it is really neat.

We have no-shave November, and it's for males and females, at least in the circles in which I traverse.
