When my mother was my age...

I saw a link for this thread on SB and decided that we needed one of these, too!

When my mother was my age...

- she had already been divorced twice and was married to my father for about a year...
- she had lost 2 babies at birth and had 2 miscarriages...
- she was pregnant with me...
- both of her parents had passed away...

I just C&P this, I asnwered on SB

    Hmmm, Mom is 50, I'm 25.

    In October, she had me!
She was 3 weeks past what they told her was her due date.  She was watching an Oprah special about an IUD that was pulled off the market for causing infertility.  She got pregnant with me while using it. She gave up on BC and got her tubes tied after I was born.

Today, she had a two-month old baby, a 6yo daughter, and was back at her job being a GM at a Pizza Hut. It was a great paying job that she later gave up to be with us.

She had been married for 8 years.

A little before she got pregnant with me, she became the first female member of a non-profit young professional organization that finally went Co-Ed.

she had been married to my dad for at least 2 years.
her dad was going through kidney failure and dialysis and had only a year to live.

that's all i know!  they waited 6 years before having kids, and they don't talk much about their marriage pre-children.

She had been married for 2.5 years (her anniv. is right next to my bday, it's very easy to do the math)
    She worked at a bank.
She was married to a man who worked...at a cheese factory (in logistics, but it's still CHEESE!)
She didn't want kids, at all (and didn't have them for another....7 years)

When my mother was my age she was one month away from graduating high school.

It sounds really bad when I put it that way haha.  Ontario had Grade 13/OAC up until a few years ago and she has a February birthday, so she was 19 and 4 months when she graduated.  My birthday is in September and there's no grade 13 so I graduated a year and a half ago .  Now that makes me seem really young.

This all of a sudden made me very sad. I don't know a whole lot about my mom's life when she was my age. I spend a lot of time with her, but I never thought to ask.

I can only assume that when she was my age, she was probably living with my dad and finishing up culinary school. She wouldn't marry him for another two years or have me for another seven years.

How old was your mom when she had you?
Meaning, how old were you 4 years ago?
You said your mom had a 4yo at your age now, if so, bless her heart, that had to have been hard.

I don't mind. My mom was 16 when she had me. But she moved away when she was 17 (and I was 1) so my grandmother actually raised me after that.

-She had already been married and divorced.
-Had remarried (my dad) and had been for 4 years
    -Worked in real estate

That's pretty much all I know up until that point. I'm 24 and my mom didn't have me until she was 26. My parents didn't originially plan to have kids. It's hard to think that my mom had been married twice by the time she was 20. Gross. Don't tell her I said that though. ;)

Yeah, I hadn't realized until this poll that she had already gotten married by the time she was my age.  I always figured she was 25, but then I stopped and did the math (and used a handy online calculator to tell the time difference between dates - her birthdate and her wedding date) and realized she was 24 years old and 5 months when she was married!  I'll be 25 next week.

My grandma pulled me aside at my 18th birthday and said, "You beat me!  Keep going - you gotta beat your Mom."  Meaning my grandma was pregnant at 16 and got married and gave birth before she turned 18.

Guess I've already "beaten" my Mom!  Craziness...

Hmm...When my mom was my age, it was early 1982 (I'm 31 today, she turned 31 in March of '82). She had been married six and a half years, had a daughter that was just over two (me!), and was working at Intel as an engineer with a bunch of technicians reporting to her. She'd also owned her own home (with my dad) for three years already and drove a maroon Plymouth Sapporo.
