Sooooo, what does everybody do?

We've already figured out who the science nerds are. But what does everyone else do?

I work in finance and my company was kind enough to give us a holiday bonus. Getting paid tomorrow!!

Currently I'm unemployed but DH and I are getting ready to move this weekend and I'm planning on going back to school for radiology. I have a BS in Maritime Administration and I had been working for a company that set up tug boats to bring ships into the harbors.

I am an Environmental Analyst.... which is just a fancy name for a person who monitors storm water run off on construction sites. I make sure your drinking water stays clean!
Planning on going back to school for my Masters in Environmental Science or Genetics. I would love to get my Masters in a Marine Science field but FI and I want to move back to the Mid-west so there is not much of a calling there.

good thread, I was thinking the same thing reading the other one!

I'm currently a full time student, studying petroleum engineering and I've got two semesters left.

I've worked some summer jobs in the oil & gas industry, and just got another one lined up for next summer!  Reason to celebrate ridiculously over the holidays? YES.

I am working as a veterinary technician at a small/large animal hospital. The goal is to ultimately transfer into a US vet school for next fall since the vet school I had been attending overseas might be closing.   I am getting some great experience working in my field and I love the hospital I am at- so everything worked out alright in the end :o)

I'm licensed in 2 states as an attorney (GA and SC), but can't find a job as an attorney, and my FI can't leave his job to move elsewhere for me to get a job, so I'm kinda stuck.  I'm still at the law clerk job I had when I was in law school, which sucks, because I can just feel my degree and my bar licenses going to waste (along with all the money and effort it took to get them), but at least I have positive income.  I try not to complain too much because it gets on FI's nerves, but it's really tough to just feel like you're not getting ANYWHERE for the past two years.  Ugh.  I must've sent my resume to every attorney's office within a 75 mile radius of where we live, and NOTHING.  It's awful.  :-(

I also attend school at night in our town towards my MBA.  Not that I think that degree will prove to be any more useful in procuring a job than the other three I have.  Sorry.  I'll stop now.  I just hate job discussions these days.  ::cries::

I completely understand, my BF is going through the same thing right now and it is definitely tough on him. All I can say is keep with it, something positive will happen. My BF has a conditional job offer right now (just awating security clearance) and it has been almost 2 years since he finished his degree.

I mange the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs human rights programme in South Africa, (among many other things). I have a Masters in Human Rights.
But the whole research/development field is not where I want to be forever, so I am going to get a real law degree (not just one in international law), so that I can actually practice instead of writing report, managing partners and preparing policy papers.

Tonight (off topic) I am marching in the torch parade for Obama.

I'm a grad student at the Univeristy of Frankfurt studying German and Comparative Literature. I always used to want to get my PHD after my masters and teach at the university, but I've started thinking about publishing/translating recently.

My BF is taking his exams in a month to finish up his law studies, after which he will be a sort of apprentice lawyer for two years, then another round of exams before he works for non-subsistance pay : ) It takes a LONG time to get a law degree over here....which is mostly why we have to wait to get engaged. Kind of frustrating, but hey, what can you do

I'm currently working on my Ph.D. in marine biology, and the BF is working on his masters. My research specialty is elasmobranchs (sharks, sawfish, stingrays, etc), as is the BF's. However, I'm doing something a little different for my Ph.D. - I'm looking at blood circulation in the eye, basically comparing the anatomy and physiology of the blood circulation in the eye between diurnal (daytime) and nocturnal (nighttime) reef fish.

I'm also in the process of starting up a photography side business, mostly specializing in portrait photography, and eventually plan to become a SCUBA instructor as well.

Yes, I'm entirely too overly ambitious.

I am a full-time college student studying advertising (with a minor in graphic design).

I LOVE my major! It's fun.

Also, as many of you know, I am a part-time receptionist at a law firm. It's a very low-stress job where I answer phones, sort mail, open files, and surf the internet all day.

I LOVE my job. It's perfect for a student who is also planning a wedding.

I am a stay-at-home-wife.  Somehow my B.S. in public health and M.A. in education overprepared me just a bit.

I actually specialize in gifted education.  I do teacher trainings when gifted funding isn't slashed in school districts.  Right now, I volunteer with a state advocacy organization.  When the executive director retires, there is a 90% chance that I will be given her position.

ETA: I am an undercover science geek.  I was actually pre-med during undergrad and worked at NIH for 5 years.

DH is a project manager (engineer in charge of large development projects.)

Thanks for the offer, that's real nice!  I'm currently set for right now, luckily.  I'm working for a small company in Fort Worth and I'm really excited about it!

So if anybody knows anything about Fort Worth...let me know!

I say lucky to get a job because it seems like hardly any of our students are getting internships for next summer.  Companies are just too cautious right now..especially sucks for my classmates trying to graduate and get jobs.  Fortunately, I've got a little longer.  Maybe the economy will pick up by then...

It's a ok job, but they pay and BS I put up with SUCKS!  I miss the research and the field work. I want to go back and get my Masters in a marine science field.

I work as a lawyer, working in private practice. It's a second or third career for me, and I absolutely love it - especially the people I work with.

My FI recently took an early retirement from the air force where he was a navigation officer. Prior to that he was a combat engineer in the army. He is going back to school in January to become a teacher. He wants to work with high school students and/or special needs children. For the past few months he's been having fun doing whatever he wants though (however, while he does get to sleep in and go on mini-travel vacations whenever, he has also been absolutely awesome at taking care of things in the house while I am at work and been doing a great portion of the wedding planning).

bf has a BS in Information Systems Technology but has had zero luck in finding a job. he graduated in august and has been actively looking, but everyone that is hiring want someone with a ridiculous amount of experience with programs that no one has ever heard of. luckily, he has a job [not in the IST field] to provide some positive income until he can find something.
