Silly question about cake topper

Ok, just a warning ... This is kind of a silly question.

For those of you who don't know, I'm about 3-4 inches taller than my FI.  I couldn't find a cake topper with a shorter groom, so I'm having one made from an Etsy vendor.  The vendor customizes everything.  So, she's going to make the dress look like mine (sweetheart neck and halter) and put a birdcage veil on the bride.  Now I'm thinking, do I show him the topper when it comes in?  Would that kind of ruin the surprise or my dress and veil?  Would he even make the connection that's what my actual dress will look like?  Thoughts?

Can you just show him his cake topper counterpart and keep yours a surprise? Or are they connected?

If your FI is anything like my H, he won't even notice the clothes.

That's a really cute and thoughtful idea!

I'm not really a traditional person, so I'd say show it to him. Guys aren't so good with things like that, he probably won't make the connection. Even if he does, seeing a miniaturized plastic version of you in your dress won't compare at all to when he actually sees you on your wedding day. :-)

I don't think he would even make the connection about what it looks like. Just tell him it was custom made for the height and don't tell him it was custom to look like y'all.

Does he know you're getting is custom done? If so, I think that *may* give him a clue on what your dress looks like. It not, I don't think he'll even think about it. Either way, men usually don't think that deeply.

I can't speak for your guy, but mine definitely wouldn't pick up on the outfit.  And even on the off chance he did, it's totally different than seeing you in the dress on the day.  It's like telling him you're going with a white dress... well, that's hardly a surprise!

I mean, if you were doing a blue & red polka dot dress, and the figure was custom made with that in mind, then I'd guess the surprise might be spoiled a bit.  But I doubt it's worth even thinking about!

    I didn't tell him yet.

They do come together on the base.

I figured I was being paranoid.  He's just so damn sharp sometimes.  Either way, I kind of agree that a ivory dress with halter straps isn't really that big of a clue (basically what Cate said).

Goldie, I'm curious as to your real identity - I have a friend from college who lives in New York and is marrying a girl who is about 4" taller than him.  Not super conclusive, but a bit of a coincidence!  I don't suppose you're both obsessed with burgers?

Although I do like burgers, I wouldn't say I'm obsessed.  Fi actually went to a technical college.  DId you?

Nope, the couple I'm thinking of have a blog on burgers.  Guess it's just a coincidence!

I don't have a blog.  But the burger blog sounds awesome.

I agree that you would probably be safe to show FI the cake topper, well unless the faces are made to look exactly like you - maybe then he would be tipped off, but if its more generic I would say its fine. He will probably just think that its just a generic/random dress that is painted on the cake topper much like all other bride & groom cake toppers. If traditional cake toppers didn't usually have a bride in a gown it may look suspicious.

I am about 3 inches taller than my BF too! Do you have a very impressive collection of dressy flats? I sure do.

I say show him. It would suck thought if he was like "I don't like the dress she is wearing"... that is something that would happen to me.

Yeah, I always wear flats.  I actually bought small kitten heeled shoes for the wedding.  I might return them though since FI said he doesn't like them.  <div><div>
</div><div>I can't really see him not liking the dress.  It's pretty basic looking.  </div></div>

I'm doing something similar, except I'm making it myself. I didn't show FI the "me" part but only because I showed him pictures of me in the dresses I've tried on.  I didn't tell him which dress I picked so if I show him the cake topper, he will know. I don't think either or us really gives a crap, but it seems like an unoffensive tradition to follow.

I agree he probably won't think any of it and I doubt it will ruin the surprise. As customized as it is, I don't think it will be anywhere as nice as actually seeing you in the dress and the veil.

BF wouldn't even notice the clothes. BF is so clueless about details that he probably wouldn't notice the similarities even if I was standing in the dress right next to the cake topper. lol I would just tell him you got it custom made for the height difference.
