Pet Peeves - Board related

Okay, I don't want anyone to name names BUT I know we all have pet peeves about things on this board (and others!) so - SPILL em!

Mine are:
- People that post without lurking.  Get a feel for the board first and maybe you won't get eaten alive when you post something stupid.
- People that post a NOVEL every time they post.  I know some things need more explanation then others but please, we don't need a novel each time you answer a question.
- People that post and run (without giving notice that they won't be back).  Let me know you won't be around so if I have questions I won't sit here like an arse waiting for the answers.
- People that argue about your opinion.  You can't argue with my opinion...that's why it's MY OPINION.  You can argue with my facts, or a statement I've made but not my opinion.

    I'll second most of those.

Some more of mine from various boards are:

-people who routinely butcher the English language.  I know it's a message board, but your post still needs to be comprehendable if you actually want advice in return

    - people who's posts are consistently drama-filled.  I have enough drama llamas in my real life right now, I don't need it on a message board. (I actually skip over certain knotties posts these days).

    - people who just tow the board party line without thinking about it.  Yes, exceptions to certain situations are rare, but they do happen.  Think about each case first, please

    - people who can't argue a point logically.  For example "You can't give an opinion about parenting/breastfeeding because you've never been a mother".  You don't need to experience something to form a valid opinion.  It's called educating yourself.

-My main peeve is when people ask for advice and then get pissy when it's not what they wanted to hear.

I hate people that tell you you're rude when you're giving them sound advice.

Saying "You'll lose nothing by waiting to get engaged at LEAST until you've graduated from college" is not rude.  It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Saying "You're a prissy little twatwaffle who must have daddy issues for wanting to get married at 18...HTH" is rude.

    See the difference?  Anyone?
  • edited December 2011
My pet peeve doesn't happen here that much.  I hate when someone asks a question that needs clarification.  Then then never come back to clarify.

Here's an example:  Someone on my local board asked about affordable photographers.  Affordable is very subjective, so she was asked for a price range.  She never came back to explain what she thought was affordable and how much she was looking to spend.  Frustrating.  Abandoning a thread that you started is rude in my opinion.

People who are so set in their opinions that they don't LISTEN to what anyone else says. They say they come for advice or support, but don't take anything in and persist in their own beliefs despite very well thought out points brought up by other posters.

Along the same lines: People who say "best wishes" or "thanks for your opinion" when they clearly don't mean it. People do this a lot when they GBCK.

Agree with butchering the English language, and overly long posts, as well as toeing the board line without thinking about it.

People who try too hard. Just be yourself.

People who say they are going to GBCK then don't.

People who make TONS of grammatical and spelling mistakes. I can handle one or two but more than that is just annoying.

People who "ask for advice" then get pissed when they don't hear what they want.

People who get their "bf" "friend" "fi" etc to stand up for them.

people that tell you what not to tell them when asking for advise.  mostly when the recently-engaged-17-year-olds want advise on getting married, but then say "and don't tell me i'm too young".  i'm sorry, but you asked for my advise, you'll get whatever i tell you.  you can choose to ignore it or not, but don't ask for advise unless you are prepared to hear all of it.

Posters who use the phrase 'us' when referring to the board when they are actually newbs themselves.  This extends to my annoyance with people who think they are regs when they are not.

    My list also includes:

Posters who cannot be bothered to capitalize or use punctuation

    Hypocritical posters

    Panty-wad posters

Anybody looking for approval or validation

Most of mine have already been said. I hate incorrect spelling and grammar. Please try and learn this language that we've all agreed upon. I hate when people pour their heart out and then say "please don't say this/that/the other thing." It's an international message board. I'll say whatever I want, thanks. Also, if you GBCK and keep on posting. Chances are the reason you GBCKed is because we don't want you here.

    Oh man, here we go...

    - Posters that piss and moan about how mean/bitchy/uppity we are, simply because we didn't happen to agree with their viewpoint/idea/etc. If you want puppies and rainbows, go tell all this to your girlfriends - sorry, but we have no qualms about not placating you around here.

    - Posters that bitch and moan how we "don't know them" or how they are "so much different/more mature/more ready" than we think they are. Sorry, pumpkin, but we can only go off what YOU present us. Oh, and BTW, EVERY person under the age of 21 thinks they're more mature than their comrades. They can't all be, so you're probably not.

    - Posters that bitch and moan about how they don't care about what we have to say. If you don't care, then go waste board space somewhere else.

    - I don't mind epic-long posts...if they belong to Jeanna, or you provide Cliff's Notes at the end. Once I get past paragraph three and there's still several more to go (and you're not Jeanna), I tend to tune out.

    - Posters that slaughter the English language. Examples include (but are not limited to):

    Non-use of paragraphs
Blatant and repetitive misspellings of basic words
Complete and utter lack of proper grammar, punctuation and sentence structure
    RaNdOm CaPiTaLiZaTiOn
    Text speak

    - Posters that use medical issues as an excuse for their behavior, or parade medical issues around like it's a merit badge.I'm sorry, but I can guarantee you that every single poster on this board has some sort of medical issue in their life. It's called being human. Unless it has direct bearing on the conversation at hand (ie. someone asks about cancer, and you've got it) or it's Fess Up Friday, then don't parade it around.

    - Posters who use the terms "us" or "we" to refer to the board as a collective, or assume they're regs when, well, they're really not. If you haven't been around this board for more than, say, six months, or haven't really contributed anything of substance, or aren't in good graces with the lot of us, most the time, you're not a reg.

    - Drama Llamas. Occasional drama that you just need to vent - ok, I get that. Nearly every single time you post? Sorry, but go away. I have enough going on in my real life - I don't need to hear it in the place where I go so I don't have to think about the real world. Like Noelle, as of late, I've actually been skipping quite a few posts around here for that very reason.

    - Potty Mouths. I won't deliberately go after a poster unless they really get under my skin. However, if you really read my posts, I don't throw out nasty names or cuss people out. I would say 95% of the girls around here are the exact same way. We may be harsh, we may be snarky, we may be bitchy, but we're not calling names. The minute you call me an uppity bitch and follow it with how "I need to grow up", you've immediately invalidated your entire argument and got yourself labeled a twatwaffle in my book. Congrats. Here's some syrup.

    - Wishy Washies. The posters that come on here and say something, and the minute a reg shoots them down, or they get the sense that the response to what they have to say isn't positive, back track and completely change their story or modify their opinion to be "back in good graces". If you are adult enough to post on here, you should be adult enough to back it up.

    - Posters that need their SOs to come on here and "defend their honor". The day I need my FI to back up my mouth is the day I quit TK altogether. If you're a grown woman mature and intelligent enough to get married, then you're mature and intelligent enough to back up what you say, and to deal with any criticisms that come along with it.

    - Clinger-Ons, Stalkers and Crazies. If you come on here, and it's made blantantly clear that you're not particularly liked or welcome here, then go away. Save yourself the time of posting, and us the time of having to read through asinine posts/comments to get to the real stuff of quality/interest. I shouldn't have to block you out just to read a Knottie friend's post or comments. You continuing to hang around doesn't put us in our place - it makes you come off as even more annoying and pathetic. Seriously - there are a gazillion other boards on TK. There's gotta be another one that will fit you better. Go find it.

...and newb/pouty poster flaming will commence in 3...2...1....
