Morning, ladies! (Yay free Wi-Fi!)

I hope you're all having a wonderful Sunday morning. I'm currently sitting at the Birmingham Int'l Airport waiting to board one of two flights scheduled for this morning. I had a little time to kill, so I thought I'd say "good morning" before I go MIA for a week.

Loving airport security, by the way. Thankfully, I didn't set off the metal detectors, but since I'm wearing my big, baggy hoody, TSA felt it necessary to pat me down, which was totally cool with me. Then after she pats me down, she tells me I've been "randomly selected" for additional screening.

Yay.

She then asks if the laptop "behind the shoes" is mine, and I tell her it is. She says she's going to check over it and if it clears, she'll let me out. (I'm inside a glass box while all this is going on. I felt like a mime, lol.) After she waves her little magic wand all over the thing, another woman is "randomly selected" and joins me in the box. I was praying neither of us passed gas.

Laptop checked out fine, I was released, and now I'm here. :) Not exactly a story worth sharing, but I've got time to kill so I thought I would. XD

Re: Morning, ladies! (Yay free Wi-Fi!)

  • I HEART free wi-fi!!  Where are you heading this morning?

Another fun TSA story - last month when I flew east for Grandma's funeral I had to go through one of the full body scanners.  Apparently I set something off and they had me go in the little box too.  The guy need to wipe my hands with some piece of paper and I asked him what that was for; he said I'd set off an alarm for gun residue.  Hmmmm.  I DO shoot the M-9 for work every other year and I DO own a gun in our house that is safely locked away and I never touch but other than those things I'm never around explosives of any sort.  Oh well, I 'tested negative' when he ran the little paper through but I still don't understand how that happened in the first place.
  • Lol, Meg, that reminds me of one of Jeff Dunham's stand-up routines where he talks about his puppet Peanut setting off a sensor that detects military-grade explosives. They said the machine can sometimes confuse lotion with them, go figure.

I'm headed out to San Diego. My first flight is into Houston, then San Diego from there. Hoping to get out there around 2:30pm. Luckily, I'm flying BACK in time, lol, so at least I have that working for me. Me and FI are moving into our new apartment on Wednesday, so I'm flying out to help him move and spend some time with him since I haven't seen him since November.
  • When I went to Vegas I got all sorts of special treatment. Full body scan, my carry-on got wiped TWICE to check for explosives. BF got nothing. I also got body scanned coming home from Florida. I actually really don't like flying and kinda hope I don't have to do it again. But I suppose it is the easiest way to get places. At least my next flight is going to be a domestic flight, so it shouldn't be as bad as flying to the US...

  • Yay random screening. Where ya headed, Hulu? FI was selected for random screening on our way home from St. Lucia because he never signed his passport *facepalm* And yes, on the way home, meaning he was able to leave the US and enter another country with no problem. But on the way home, there was an issue. I have free wifi too! At the laundromat. Because my bunny decided to pee all over my down comforter this morning.

  • Hulu on the west coast . . . yay!!!!  I LOVE San Diego!  FI's cousin and quite a few of our friends live down there so we usually go down a few times a year.  Oh - also, Lyn & I were talking about driving to the G2G in may.  Are you in for that?  I was hoping you girls could get to Riverside (it's kind of central to all of us) and then I would drive us from there.  My other house is there so you'd be able to leave cars there if you wanted.

Also, I didn't know lotion could be confused with explosives.  I'm always putting lotion on so maybe that's why I set the alarm off.  Weird.

  • Hulu - I love SD! Have fun!! Its totally because of your hoody. If I wear baggy or loose clothing I always get stopped.

A video about girls at airport security:

Vegas, I always get searched there - going in and coming out. Every time with out fail. BF always get searched in LA and has to do the body scan And they started the residue testing at the calgary airport for random testing, which I always get randomly selected for as well.

2 things I found getting through it more easily, I turn my laptop on and just close the cover til security, I pop the screen open before it goes through so security that pushes it through sees it works and closes the screen usually followed by a "Laptop works and is on" and I stopped carrying tampons (OB ones) in my purse and carry on. I always get stopped for that and they question me. Perhaps because they look like bullets? but yet they arent metal....  Its always the Tampons they are checking.... :/

  • Fun stuff Hulu.  Welcome to CA!!  <3  You are going to love it!

I am flying for the first time in a while in 3 months and I am nervous.  I sure as hell am not doing the full body scan, no no no!

  • San Diego is lovely, I've always enjoyed visiting here. Even though it's going to be cloudy and rainy most of the time while I'm here, the temperature is still much warmer than it is at home. It's nice to just need a light jacket, if anything at all.

FI's in the shower atm, but once we finish getting ready, we're headed to IKEA to look at some bedroom and living room furniture. I'm stoked! LOL. I've only been in IKEA once (in Edmonton, AB) and it was a treat for me since we don't have them where I live. FI's never been inside one. His mom is coming with us since she's done all the measurements of the apartment and knows what would fit and what wouldn't. I'll definitely post some before and after pictures (as well as doing my video walkthrough!)
