Maps

We have a little bit of time, but since we ending up saving a ton on the reception/DJ/photographer, we've decided we'll be able to put maps in with the invitations.

The reception venue is about 30 minutes from the ceremony site.  It's a very easy drive, only one freeway, but when you get off the freeway, there might be a bit of confusion on where the left turn lane is for the street that the venue is on (the left turn lane has a physical divider that starts way early).  We're afraid people might miss it.

My mom suggested that I ask all of my friends on the knot and see what they think - should it be a map or should we write out directions?

Thanks all!

I think a small hand drawn map with written out directions would be a good idea.

I agree with KD, a combination of drawn map and instructions would be good.

Does the venue have printed maps/directions that you can use? I know a lot of places offer them - some are even complimentary. I think maps are a very good idea.

I also think that a combination map & written directions is a good idea. Some people do better with written directions and some people do better looking at an actual map and well some need both. Yes adults should be able to figure it out, but if you have a number of guests not familiar with the area/venue it is really nice to give them the heads up with the confusing turn, other wise you may end up with some frustrated, aggravated guests that had difficulty finding your venue.

I helped out at a wedding a couple weeks ago and we handed out cards with the directions to the reception as everyone was exiting the ceremony.  I got SO many comments later as to how helpful they were!  It was only a 5 minute drive, but it was country roads and they found it really helpful. I'm definitely doing something like this, probably on business cards, to help out the guests.

I agree with PPs.  A hand drawn map and little directions will probably be much appreciated.  Not only will people think you are thoughtful but it ensures that people will arrive safe and on time.

Also, if you can, make them so you can fit several on a page when printing/coping. That way you can save a bit of your extra money

I used these directions to make my map and it came out really well. I also included written directions below the map. PM me if you want to see what my final product looked like.
