Not Engaged Yet

my disease is stupid...grr/vent

I have a skin condition that is/can be painful. So far this week, it's got in the way of:
a) sitting/standing without saying "ow"
b) going out to dinner tonight (the whole sitting thing)
c) scuba diving next week

I was feeling better yesterday, so I know the meds are working, but ugh, work faster!

And yes, for those concerned, I do have a follow-up appt with my doc the Monday after Thanksgiving. I'm just as excited for that appt (and horrified, too) as I am for turkey. Thankfully, I'm not horrified of turkey.

SO:
a) What's your gripe for the week?
b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving? Yep, even if you're Canadian.
c) Favorite side dish?

I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

PS - We're going to visit our parents for the week and going to lots of college football games!

And I love love love sweet potatoes with marshmallows.

I also love turnips (my dad cubes em and makes em with a little bacon)

And stuffing.

I freakin <3 Turkey day for the side dishes, obviously

The Occupy DC march that is going to make my commute home awful, after a 2 hour commute into this city because of an accident on the hwy. GAH!

Going to FI's family's festivities, dinner and socializing at his mom's house. :)

c) Favorite side dish?

Sorry to hear you're in pain like that! I hope the meds work quickly too!!

I also LOVE sweet potatoes with marshmallows and brown sugar too. I love Thanksgiving for all the food, but I have to be good or I'll end up eating 4 servings of everything which ends up being about 4 days worth of food in one sitting, lol.
Which seems about right according to this stat:

The average American will consume more than 4500 calories and 229 grams of fat on Thanksgiving Day alone.

Do you mind sharing more about your skin condition?
I have this condition- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidradenitis_suppurativa

It's painful...and ugly. And it's gone totally out of control since I've been off the pill. So now I'm considering going back on.

(Oh...and I may have missed a thread were you talked about it already? I can dig around).

a) What's your gripe for the week?
I'm tired. I've been working 11-12 hour days and I still can't seem to get caught up on my new projects. I just want to get some sleep, yo.

b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving?
We're going to BF's brother's house this year. I'm totally bummed because I totally called it first and I want to be home. (Yes, I know that's selfish) To mitigate my frustration, were having our own Thanksgiving at home on Saturday...and all the leftovers will be ours. BUAHAHAHAHA!

c) Favorite side dish?
Mashed potatoes & homemade gravy, duh.

a) What's your gripe for the week?
my skin has been breaking out for the first time since July. I HATE it. it hurts, and it makes me feel self-conscious. I've been under a lot of stress and been fighting sickness and viruses the past month or so. it's just annoying. and I'm tired all.the.time. but I'm always like that in the fall/winter.

b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving?
we are going to NM to visit H's family. I don't think it'll be like a traditional American Thanksgiving, so we'll just have to see.

c) Favorite side dish?
I can't choose. but I love brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, STUFFING, cranberry sauce, salad, ROLLS... mmmm!! can't wait! I don't think we'll have those things at H's Thanksgiving (we'll be having tamales and enchiladas) so we're going to have a small Thanksgiving at home when we get back. yay!

Lunar, eye to eye.

I have HS too (and for those of you that DON'T, I advise NOT google imaging it, because it's a bunch of horrible distorted porn images, basically).

Mine's better on the pill, but gets worse the 3rd week of pills no matter what I do. I just have a really awful flare-up currently, so I'm on two different antibiotics (which are destroying my stomach) and have a script for vicodin, except I can't use it when I'm at work.

PM me if you want to talk about HS anymore. Or ya know, reply in this thread, whatevs.

a) What's your gripe for the week?

Being tired. The dog has woken me up every night at around 1 or 2 in the morning to go outside since FI left for California. It's been a week. Plus the dog won't let me sleep past 7 am on the weekend. I don't know if I'll be able to survive children cause this is so minor and it is wreaking havoc on my sleep. Atleast the dog is happy and wagging his tail at 2am, makes it a bit harder to be mad at him.

b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving? Yep, even if you're Canadian.

I'll be working and then get to hear about how great American Thanksgiving is from FI when he calls from Cali.

c) Favorite side dish?

Stuffing....handsdown. My mom's tops all others that I've experienced though.

a) What's your gripe for the week?
I've been depressed, but luckily I'm starting to come out of my funk. My mom is super irritating when it comes to BF and I getting engaged still though. ( MOM, it will happen when it happens! Shut Up already!)

b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving?
BF and I are surprising his parents next Wednesday evening and then having thanksgiving lunch with them. Then we are driving to meet my parent's in KC for Thanksgiving dinner and watching them light up the plaza. We are doing our Black Friday shopping in KC and staying on the plaza. My family heads back to St. Louis on Saturday and BF and I will head back to Manhattan. I also am meeting up with Becunning on Sunday :)

c) Favorite side dish?
Side? Green bean casserole and cheesy potatoes :) But, my dad's butternut squash pie is freaking to die for!!!

I'm sorry Blue - I hope things get better!

My vent - my acne is suddenly out of control. I started running again today though, so I hope that it gets itself together. Because right now it's all on the right side of my face, so I feel like Two-Face.

Plans for Thanksgiving: Working half a day on Wednesday, driving home, and helping mom with dinner for Thursday. My little brother will be home too!!!! I'm excited to see him - if any of you ladies have little sisters looking for an 18 year old man, I got you one. If he weren't my brother, I'd be all over him. Friday we're going SHOPPING (although mostly just standing in line for Mom - my gifts this year are homemade). Probably drinking Friday night, and Saturday going dancing with Mast. :) Maybe a makeover with Ma on Saturday?

Favorite Side Dish - I only get one? We do green bean casserole, and cornbread stuffing (omg orgasmic), and sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce and omg om nom nom nom nom

Ugh, sorry Blue. I don't have HS, but I have a whole host of other skin issues, so I feel your pain. Right now is one of the worst times of the year for my skin allergies, and I have rashes everywhere. Behind my knees, my hands, my hips, the backs of my shoulder blades, even my ass. I'm constantly itchy and/or bleeding and I just want it to stop.

So yeah, I'll make that my gripe.

A. See above.
B. I'm not sure yet. My family is terrible about planning ahead. I'll probably spend it with FI's family this year.
C. Mashed potatoes, with tons of garlic and butter. Yummmmm.

a) What's your gripe for the week? Because of the weather and working late, I didn't go to the YMCA and decided to play Dance Dance Revolution at home. I played DDR hardcore and since then have had bad neck and back pain because of my oh-so-lovely scoliosis. I don't go to my weekly chiropractor appointment until tomorrow so I am feeling all pain :<.

b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving? Bouncing around to three Thanksgivings. We're visiting with Tyler's parents then going with them to his mom's mother's house, his dad's mother's house and then to my family. I'm having to decide what to take to eat because of my food allergies -- we'll be having the big Thanksgiving meal with allergens all over the place with his dad's mother and then allergy safe dessert with my family.

c) Favorite side dish? I hadn't ever had it before last year, but I like the sweet potatoes with marshmallows. My grandma's housekeeper/cook makes an amazing cranberry thing for our Thanksgiving and Christmas. It has cranberries, pecans and pineapple as well as some other stuff I can't remember. I'm definitely looking forward to having some with my gluten-free pumpkin cheesecake with the gingersnap crust :D!

My complaint is that my feet are cold! I'm wearing two pairs of pants and a sweater but HATE wearing socks so much, I put a blanket over them but even that bothers me... my only options are to wear sock (ew!), turn up the heat (too cheap to pay for higher gas/hydro bills), or deal with the cold feet - I am choosing to deal with cold feet. I have been absolutely exhausted for the past 2 weeks, and it is kind of snowing.

For American Thanksgiving I plan to work! I'm home alone for the week so I don't even think I'll make a semi special meal. I'll likely try to get some Christmas sewing done and finish up the holiday decorating so we're ready to get the tree next weekend!

My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the pie. I know its not a side dish, but I love pie! We always have broccoli and cauliflower with cheese sauce and thats probably my favorite of the actual sides.

Blue, I'm sorry you're dealing with your skin condition at all & even more so because it sounds so painful. I hope you get some relief soon!!

Out of nowhere my chin (not my actual chin but like kind of on both sides going down from the corners of my mouth to my jawline, that area if that makes sense) started breaking out horribly in August, it's gotten worse & worse & I feel like I've tried everything. I read online that breakouts on that part of your face are hormone-related but I'm already on BC. I think/wish/hope/pray that it's now starting to go away & I am so grateful because it's been really unbearable & embarrassing.

a) What's your gripe for the week?
I'm having a really hard time thinking of something to get my aunt for Christmas. She's my godmother so I always get her something but this year I'm totally stumped & I really wanted to be done shopping by Thanksgiving. She's rich & I feel like she has everything which is making it hard. Plus I have a lower budget this year because I'm saving for my wedding. Frustrating.

b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving? Yep, even if you're Canadian.
Going to my aunt's house in South Jersey.

c) Favorite side dish?
Sweet potatoes & brown sugar or my mom's stuffing

Oh god Blue & Lunar, that sounds like a terrible disease to have to deal with! :/ I hope it gets much better VERY soon!

a) What's your gripe for the week?
My office chair makes fart noises, which I have told my coworkers is the chair, not me, but there's no telling if they actually believe me. It just made the loudest and deepest fart noise yet (honestly, if they believe that was a person, they must think I sh!t myself), so I finally switched chairs because I can't deal with the shame anymore. Now I really have to pee, but I'm worried if they see me head to the bathroom, they will think terrible things.

b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving? Yep, even if you're Canadian.
I actually feel really bad about this, but I'm not looking forward to it much at all. And I LOVE Thanksgiving. We usually have it at my mom's house, but my grandma wants it at her house this year (which will involve different people being there), since it is the first one since my grandfather and aunt passed away. I understand that, but I have no interest in sitting around and being sad as a group, which I know will happen. That is NOT how Grampy or Auntie Lyn would have wanted us to spend the holiday. If I have a sad moment, I want it to be in private. Plus, my grandmother apparently already made comments that I won't be there at 2 on the dot, since I am going to BF's parents' house first. I have not the energy for this. I'm sure it will end up being just fine, I'm just sad that the plans changed I guess.

c) Favorite side dish?
Stuffing. The recipe has been passed down for Irish potato stuffing through my mom's family and it is INCREDIBLE! I love garlicky mashed potatoes too, and gravy. And sweet potatoes. Mmmm I can't wait for the food. I'm bringing some awesome desserts too, so that should be fun.

rdr, I think BC can sometimes cause you to break out (if pregnancy can, I assume BC can as well). But yea, hormones are weird. And my skin issue is intensified by stress, so since you've had lots of big events in your life lately (engagement, engagement party, etc.!) maybe that's stressing you out in a positive way (cause stress doesn't have to be negative!)

csousa, I think your fart chair is the funniest story I've heard all day :)

Good luck with it and I'm glad it's starting to get better!

Haha, yay my plan to make people laugh worked!

I let enough time pass so that they would think the fart noise and bathroom trip were unrelated, and took my opportunity to go pee. My gripe is assuaged.

B&W, I'm sorry you're in so much pain! Not being able to get comfortable is awful. :(

a) What's your gripe for the week?
My gripe for the week is that when I went to the doctor on Tuesday as a follow up to my ultrasound I found out that the cyst on my ovary is bigger, and now there's one on my left side too. I'm really worried about it, because the one that was there before doubled in size in 4 months, and the one on the left is almost as big. They've been really uncomfortable, so all I want to do is curl up in bed with a heating pad instead of going to class, but since it's the last few weeks of term, I can't do that. I have an appointment with my specialist back home in a month when I'm back for Christmas, and as lame as it would be to have to stay in bed over the holidays, I'm really hoping he can schedule a surgery while I'm home.

b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving? Yep, even if you're Canadian.
A few of my American friends want to make dinner since they can't go home for the weekend. Other than that, just a regular weekend.

c) Favorite side dish?
Mashed potatoes, obviously ;)

I have an appointment with my specialist back home in a month when I'm back for Christmas, and as lame as it would be to have to stay in bed over the holidays, I'm really hoping he can schedule a surgery while I'm home. b) What are you doing for (American) Thanksgiving? Yep, even if you're Canadian. A few of my American friends want to make dinner since they can't go home for the weekend. Other than that, just a regular weekend. c) Favorite side dish? Mashed potatoes, obviously ;)

Oh man, that sounds painful :( I really hope your at home specialist can find a way to fit you in. Sure, it'd be a rotten way to spend the holidays, but at least it'd be fixed, ya know? Is there any way you can get in with your specialist earlier? Then he'd have more time to schedule the surgery (I have no idea about these sorts of things because I'm horrified of needles, but there's my two cents).

Good luck with the end of the semester, you can do it! (also, at my school I teach at, we have "medical incompletes" we're allowed to give for situations such as yours - the students have to finish the coursework before the end of the next semester. That is probably an option if it gets worse, but I'll hope and pray that it doesn't for you!)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

Thanks, it's not the most comfortable thing I've had to deal with, although it sounds like you're pretty uncomfortable yourself! :(

I was able to get an appointment with him for 2 days after I get back home, so that's good. They weren't sure they could fit me in, but when I told them the treatment plan the hospital here was thinking of, they squeezed me in. :) I've also spoken to the head of my program, so I can extend my trip home into next semester a bit if I need to. I'll be home for 3 weeks as it is right now, but it's nice to know that it won't be an issue if I need to stay longer. I'm hoping I don't need to do anything about the rest of this semester though, I don't have too many classes left in the next couple of weeks.
