Not Engaged Yet

Good Monday Morning!

I'm back.  I think I gained five pounds over the last five days.
I guess it's a southern tradition, but people always bring food around when there's a death. Peach cobblers, casseroles, fried chicken, pecan pies, sandwiches... everthing, everywhere.

It's really nice, because the family gets to gather after the funeral to eat, share stories and enjoy each other's company.  So, even though there's sadness, we're able to smile and catch up.

Anything funny or interesting happen?

Where's Angie's pictures?

Peekaboo is engaged!!!

And a Monday morning question:
You're given money to open your own business.  You have to use it for that.  What kind of business would you open?

Welcome back. And again, I'm sorry for your loss, but glad you had some family time.

Welcome back, sorry for your loss!  I hope you at least had some fun seeing your family.

Right this minute, I'm not equipped to open the business I eventually want to open.  I need to go back to grad school first, so if possible, I'd use it towards grad school to get to that goal.  If not, then I'd probably open a furniture painting business.  I love painting on wood, and you can do some really cute stuff - especially with kids furniture!  I'd paint rockets on bedroom sets for little boys, and pink glittery flowers on bedroom sets for little girls.  It would be awesome!

FI and I have always talked about opening a pizza place/microbrew.  I know it sounds typical, but it would be completely gluten free.  He loves to brew beer, and his goal in life is to figure out how to brew a gluten free wheat-esque beer, since that was my favorite when I lived in Germany.  And beer goes very well with pizza :)

If it was just my business, I'd open an event planning business... conferences, networking events, etc. Not just necessarily weddings.

My BF would love to open a German restaurant. His mom was born in Germany, he speaks fluent German and loves the food. I'd be great as the hostess with the mostess. Maybe someday!

Happy Monday to you... sorry about the loss!

My first thought after reading that was "mmmm peach cobbler...."

I would open a Whole Foods or a Trader Joe's close to where I live... I hate driving 20 min to my favorite foodie spots!

I'd open a cafe or bakery. I'm taking a baking class right now and I'm really getting into it :) I feel like I'd have to go to culinary school, too, though. And get a partner in crime who was business savvy.

Hello! I'm glad the funeral went well.

the business I REALLY want to open up is a nonprofit organization. It would be sort of like meals on wheels, except it would be different.  I would have a sign up list for homeless people/low income families in the community. When they sign up for a certain day, someone would make them a meal.  Mostly it would be like bringing meals to the homeless, but organized. That's my dream.

I would like to have my own events venue. I think it would be neat to buy an old mansion or something and fix it up so that it could be rented out for weddings, birthday parties, corporate gatherings, etc. I would set it up so there would be basic packages customers could choose from, but they would also be able to customize their choices as well.

Or I would like to buy a giant farm and start some sort of animal rescue.

Well since I'm in Cosmetology school I guess I would have to say I would open my own hairstyling salon.

I really do want to open my own salon within the next ten years, but it's definitely a lot of work. I want a salon that has everything. Hairstyling, massages, waxing, makeup, nails, manicures and pedicures. It has a bit of everything but mostly hair styling, colorists, and that stuff.

But for right now I'm just content working in a salon. I'm in no rush to open my own business.

I must have missed something, Wrkn. I apologize for my ignorance but who passed away, if you don't mind me asking? I found out yesterday that one of my and FI's best friends lost his mom on Saturday, so we have a funeral to go to on Wednesday =\ FI actually spent last night with his friend so he wouldn't freak out too badly.

I would LOVE to open a comic book shop or a bookstore (that also sells used book and comics as well as new, and maybe collectables and stationary), with a little bistro/cafe in the back so my mom could work there and cook! =)

Bella, my uncle passed away last Tuesday, he had Cancer.  It's ok, he was suffering, but he didn't suffer long.
It sounds really morbid and almost mean to say, but he had a bad two weeks where he went downhill, he could have done that for two months.

It's just crappy because my Grandpa just passed away last year.  He died 03/08/10, my uncle (his son) passed away 03/01/11.  The family has had a rough year.

But we are all OK.  We had a family meeting after the funeral. The 'President' of the family (my mom) instructed everyone that they were to get regular health check ups and care for themselves.  So no one else can get sick, it's against the rules.Tongue out

I'm so, so sorry to hear that. FI's cousin, great-aunt and great-uncle all passed away within 6 months of each other. Now our friend's mom, who was also very sick. I think she died from surgery complications.

Glad your family is dealing well, though. *hugs*

Wrkn, I'm so sorry for your loss! Glad that you guys are doing fairly well!

I'm torn between what I would do... I would either open a bookstore/coffee shop with big comfy chairs and couches where people could come hang out and read. It would also have an awesome kids center so parents could come with their munchkins and they'd have a place to play while the parents had coffee or read.

Or... I would also love to buy a beautiful house overlooking the beach which I would rent out as a venue for weddings, birthdays, corporate events etc... It would be inclusive, so my bf would do the catering and my bf's sister would do the cakes and photography. I would also offer flowers and stationary. Basically a place that offered everything you'd need!

Sorry for your loss, Wrkn. Cancer is a nasty disease, but you're so right about the 2 weeks versus 2 months thing. It's almost like the quickness of that kind of stuff prevents the family from dwelling and anticipating loss...at least that's how it's seemed in my opinion. I don't really like thinking about death too much though, so on a lighter note, if I would totally start a vegan pizza shop. BF has always said I should become a wedding planner, but spending all this time on TK has kind of swayed me away from that.
Not in a bad way though! Just in a reality check way.
