Not Engaged Yet

I'm being such a baby!

I have my urodynamics test today at 12:30. It's only an hour. It shouldn't hurt, although will most likely be uncomfortable. It won't kill me ... but I'm so nervous! I even had dreams about waiting in the doctor's office last night.

I don't know exactly what they're going to do, even though I've read the paper, or how and I'm pretty sure I have to get catheters put in, but I've never had a guy doctor so I'm freaking out that I will even though I know it's silly. I've never had a catheter before either, so that is scaring me!

I didn't think I would need someone to go with me, but now I kinda wish I had asked someone... at least just to sit with me in the waiting room.

We'll all be holding your hand in spirit...right there with you Elannis! I always get a bit nervous when it comes to medical stuff. It will all go smoothly, no worries. Can you bring a magazine or book to keep you distracted? Or maybe a stuffed animal to hold? I know the stuffed animal may sound childish to some, but I think it would be comforting.

    Thank you both!

Allusive, I usually hold onto the locket that FI gave me whenever I'm feeling nervous or shy or something like that. I think that will help. I know nobody likes to have tubes stuck up in them or anything, but I am pretty modest, so I feel kinda like I did back at my first gyno trip... which is not good because when I get nervous, my stomach gets a bit upset and that's the last thing I want to have happen when they're doing what they're doing.

Cannot wait for it to be over!! But at least when it is over, I should be meeting Bri, so maybe I can just concentrate on getting to that instead, lol.

Haha, you're reading my mind. I actually almost just wrote that. I keep thinking about it and then taking a deep breath and then thinking about something else.

I think I also keep trying to tell myself that I don't need to go, that I'm just drinking too much water and it's messing up my system. But that doesn't explain why I have problems with flow or sudden urge and ... I just need to suck it up, lol.

You'll do great! Good luck. And you might just get some answers from the test, so think about the results. That'll be a relief. Hugs!

Good luck today! Ask for an antibiotic if one isn't offered. It's not unusual to get an infection from this type of test.

Let us know how you're doing later. I've been around this block!

I have to try to drink 16 oz. of water 2 hours before I have to be there too. I don't know how they expect me to do that, but I will try.

I read about the infections possibly happening. I hope I don't get one. It says to drink a ton of fluids when I get back from it to try to flush anything out.

It definitely helps being able to talk to you ladies and knowing that you're there in spirit with me, so thank you all for that! : )

And yes, I do so hope that we get some kind of results back from this!

[QUOTE]Awww, Ely. If I lived near you I'd go sit with you in the waiting room! It's hard to do this kind of stuff. You'll be fine...I think most times the anticipation is a LOT worse than the actual procedure. I've had a catheder several times (for tests like these, and for surgery), and while it's not the most fun feeling in the world, it truly doesn't hurt and is more of just an awkward feeling more than anything. I'm happy that this test means that you will be getting some much needed answers soon! Let us know how we can help....we'll be thinking of you!

Thanks, Liv! It helps to hear you talk about having had a catheter before. I think that's what scares me the most, since it's completely new to me and it's not only urinary, but also rectal. :(

I think I'm also going to have to sit on a toilet, with catheters in, and try to pee with the nurses/doctor in the room with me. That will be weird too. I'm sorry I'm sharing all the weird/TMI info with you guys, lol. I just realized I probably don't need to share so many details.

It says I have to drink 2, 8 oz. glasses of water beginning 2 hours before the appointment time. Do you think that means that I can just start at 10:30 and work my way through it? I don't think I can hold it for 2 hours. I've gone to the bathroom already probably 4 or 5 times today in about 2.25 hours. They need my bladder to be full, but I'd rather have them have to wait on it than feel like I'm going to explode as I drive an hour to Toledo.

Start at 10:30 and work through it (but not over an hour or anything - should probably finish it in 30 minutes or so). I almost peed in the waiting room trying to hold it.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of, lol. For my first visit with the urologist I knew I had to give a sample, but they were about 30 minutes late taking me in from the waiting room. I thought I was going to lose it. I was even starting to sweat. If they wouldn't have come to get me, I was going to go tell them that I needed a bathroom and they can give me a cup or not, but I'm going, lol.

I'm out! I'll report back later, although this is just a test so I won't know any results until the 1st of December probably.
