Who here knits?

How hard would it be to teach myself to knit? My grandma started teaching me years ago but I've forgotten even the basics since then. I'd really like to learn but I have no-one to teach me.

I'll have to check those out, thanks Yaga! How long did it take you to teach yourself?

I'm like yaga - I crochet. My grand unit taught me when i was very young - like...6 or something ridiculous...lol.

I hadn't done it in several years, and had to reteach my self. Lionbrand.com has a lot of tutorials on knitting and crocheting - as well as some fun patterns

I knit!  And I second Lauren:  those videos are awesome tools.  I learned hot to knit from a class at a local arn store, but when I need to learn how to do something new, I go to use those videos.

    Knitting is AWESOME.  :)

I knit loads and love it. My mum taught me when I was a kid but I could only do basic knit and purl but using you tube vids I've taught myself increasing/decreasing/cables and most importantly how to read patterns. If you know how to knit and purl reading patterns is the only other thing you need to learn. Plus I bought a book which has loads of different 'squares' all with different patters just with a mix of knit and purl that look really impressive.

A friend of mine crochets so we exchanged teaching tips but I can't do anything except granny squares with crochet. Does anyone have any nice easy crochet patters that aren't granny squares?

I wish I could knit. I successfully knitted a green square looking thing once, it was supposed to  be a scarf, but I didn't know how to finish a row. After reading this thread, I really want to go buy some needles and yarn and try again. It's pretty relaxing and an excellent use of couch time :)

You should...find some tutorials online :)

knittinghelp.com (I think) is the one I use, haha.  Usually, I just call BF's mom because she is kinda a knitting addict, whereas I'm a crafting addict, so when I go to knit again, I have to remind myself how to do it.

I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

I am trying to teach my self too. It hasn't been easy for me though. There are some classes at yarn stores in my area and Michaels teaches classes too.

[QUOTE]Beth, I am currently learning to knit using KnittingHelp.com.  They have a lot of videos and the woman goes really slowly so it is easy to follow.  We can be learning buddies

That website looks like it will be really helpful, Thanks! And yes we should be learning buddies! :)
