achy teeth and sinuses

I sometimes get extremely achy teeth when I have a sinus infection.  when it clears up, my teeth feel fine.

obviously, I have something going on.  I thought it was a cold, but now I'm not sure.  I have a scratchy throat, watery eyes, stuffy and runny nose, slight cough, sneezy, and really achy teeth.  I'm taking some Mucinex to help with the other symptoms, but so far my achy teeth are only getting worse!  so maybe it's a sinus infection, I don't know.  I'd go to the doctor, but usually we just decide to give it a week or so to clear up before pursuing antibiotics.

the last time the teeth aching happened, my doctor said that it was fairly normal with a sinus infection (I guess because all of the drainage going on) and not to worry about it.  but they really hurt.  it's hard to eat or drink, and even brushing my teeth is quite painful.  :(

has anyone else experienced this?  any tips for relief?  I already use Sensodyne for sensitive teeth, so I've got that covered.

anyone else starting to come down with the crud?  or a happy-vibes lolcatz to share?

I have actually had this happen to me recently. The last time I got a really bad cold my molars were super sore and I was confused why. I figured it was just because I was sick and it went away with the cold. I don't have any tips to get rid of it, I just kind of toughed it out hoping it went away...

I'm sorry to hear that Coco!! I used to get horrible sinus infections every other month. When I got tooth pain, I took lots of aleve and ate ice cream.

    Hugs and vibes!!!

And it's not a lolcatz, but this is my BF's cat playing DJ hero like a pro!

I can't technically help with the achy teeth part because that doesn't happen to me but I get a ton of sinus infections (I had surgery to help with it) & I swear by Advil Cold & Sinus.  They keep it behind the counter now (kids these days) but it's a godsend for me personally.  The Advil part of it should help with the teeth pain  though!

thanks guys!  I think I need to get some of the Advil Cold & Sinus or Aleve now...  anything for relief!

right now anything hot, cold, or sweet really makes them hurt.  thankfully it's really only one side of my mouth, so I just chew on that side.  win!

Your teeth are hurting because your sinuses go along them - when your sinuses are stuffed or infected, there is a lot of swelling and that is what hurts your teeth. I have this happen just about every time I get sick, and it almost always turns into a sinus infection for me.

Aleve or Advil Cold and Sinus should help a lot. And don't forget - lots of tea with honey, OJ, and cough drops!! I hope you feel better soon, but if it doesn't clear up in a few days or at least get better, I would call your doctor for meds.

Csousa is right. My mom always gets toothaches when her sinuses bother her.

I really recommend using a sinus rinse or neti pot. I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/NeilMeds-Sinus-Rinse-Regular-Bottle/dp/B000RJGB5C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1318537717&sr=8-4

You can usually find a kit that includes the bottle and 50 salt packets at the drugstore. It takes some getting used to, but it helps clean out anything in your sinuses. My doctor said she did this several times a day when she had a sinus infection while pregnant because she didn't want to use antibiotics.

Also, it sounds like you might have allergies rather than a cold. Maybe try an anti-histamine for a few days (e.g. Claritin). Target has generic Claritin for a good price.

I agree with rdr advil cold and sinus. I also use a neti pot to help.  My teeth do hurt though when I get a sinus infection or even a bad cold.  Hope you feel better soon!

I had this happen to me once when I was in college. It was really weird because my teeth started hurting a couple of days before I had any other symptoms, so I was really confused as to what was going on. I think as long as they don't bother you when you don't have sinus issues, then you probably don't have to worry about it being something other than the sinus infection.

I would just take whatever decongestant works the best for you-the congestion in the sinus cavities down my your mouth is what makes your teeth ache so much, so if you clear some of that out, it should help.

thanks for all the tips!  I'm trying to stay medicated (I hate taking medicine, but I've had enough this time) so hopefully it'll fix itself pronto.

This always happens to me when I have something going on with my sinuses.  Do you have allergies? I always get this when my allergies act up.  My dentist told me that my roots are close to my sinuses so whenever my sinuses act up, I will feel it in my teeth.

I used to get multiple sinus infections every winter when I lived in the Midwest, but I get less frequent and less severe infections living in AZ.

I would actually advise against anything but Mucinex and lots of hot fluids.

Sometimes the decongestants in things like Advil Cold and Sinus or Nyquil will dry you up in there, and that can make things more inflamed and hurty up in there.

Mucinex will thin the mucus, helping it drain. Hot fluids also can help b/c the heat as well as staying hydrated will also keep the mucus thin and draining.

A humidifier is also useful in keeping tissue moist, reducing inflamation, and promoting drainage. A long hot shower will give the same kind of effect.

You can take an Advil or Tylenol to help with the pain if you need to.

    Hope you feel better soon!
